I feel like I'm only rating this generously because I love Lauren Layne.

I love the older brother's best friend and enemies to lovers tropes, but these two drove me nuts. These two fight about everything. Reece's reason for hating Lucy is only in his own mind because he never actually talked to her about their relationship when they were teens. Lucy can't get over what happened in their past, and she just wants the truth, but whenever they argue and the past gets brought up, Reece shuts down the discussion. The back and forth got really frustrating and annoying because I just wanted them to talk about the past, so they could move on. I'd have enjoyed the story more if they'd hashed out their crap from the beginning and the book was about them rebuilding a relationship, and I was really annoyed with Lucy because Reece kept pushing her away and he said a lot of awful things to her (She did too, but that seemed to be from being hurt by whatever he said or did.), yet in the end she decided to chase him down AGAIN. I'd just one time love a woman to make the man grovel. Yes, you both messed up, you were both young, but constantly going after someone who keeps telling you they don't want you makes me crazy. Have some pride. He either gets his head out of his rear and comes to you, or you need to move on. I don't understand women who keep getting told they're not wanted but keep forcing things with the guy. If he's not grown up enough to talk to you about what the problem is, then he's not grown up enough to be in a relationship. Period. End of story.

Noble idiocy should be a crime. Qualified when the noble idiot has the audacity to blame the other party for his idiotic acts.

ugh 2010s romance, 2010s ROMANCEEE. cant believe lauren layne ended my book slump so seamlessly. or maybe it was that i finally got a kindle again. my 60-book reading goal is too achievable now, i need to pursue a new dream. oh and reese and lucy? obsessed w them. like i was in that. i was IN THAT. i was part of the breakup and the makeup and the road trip and the flat tire and the seedy motel. literally i was there. okay that's it, im going to go READ.

I liked that the MC (main character) will have nothing to do with assholes. It was angsty but not dragged out. Both characters were driven but not asshole-ish. The entire book is fueled by their relationship and totally relatable teenage and adult insecurities. There were no external circumstances messing with the relationship cliches. The couple had good chemistry even though the chemistry was sometimes crippled by the trapped-in-motel-car-together clunky plot. I loved the epilogue at the wine tasting with both of them doing what they're good at and want to do. The POV switching was great - wished we got that for "Walk of Shame" as well.

Lauren Layne is one of those authors that has been kind of hit and miss for me. While I have absolutely loved some of her books, others were just okay for me. Love Story had so much promise though, as the brother's best friend trope is one of my all time favorites! Unfortunately though, this one was just okay for me even though I desperately wanted to love it.

Lucy Hawkins is ready to start her life and leave her hometown behind after getting a job offer on the other side of the country. But with that she quickly realizes that the car her family gave her to start the trip comes with a companion that she hadn't expected, her older brother's best friend. Reece Sullivan is also the guy that took her virginity before breaking her heart. Reece has put up walls to keep others out, especially after spending years caring for his sick father. But no matter how hard he tries to keep Lucy out, she has a way of getting under his skin. Can these two find a second chance at love together?

I will admit that my biggest issue here was Lucy and Reece. These two were immature and acted so childish at times. While I love some good banter, this was more like juvenile bickering and it honestly drove me nuts! There was so much push and pull, that I had a really tough time getting into the story or caring about the characters. I didn't dislike them, but I didn't feel as though I could relate to them and I wasn't invested in their story. While they did have chemistry and it was clear there were feelings between them, they just irritated me too much to ever really get behind their story.

Overall, this one was just okay and wasn't quite what I had been expecting. I really did want to love this one, and I know that Lauren Layne has a lot of talent. Love Story just didn't do it for me though, and I just couldn't get past the immaturity and constant push and pull. I know this won't be the last I read from Lauren Layne, and like I said I really have enjoyed much of what I have read from her. If this one sounds like something you might like, I recommend giving it a shot.

Quick Summary: A being-in-love-with-your-brother's-best-friend romance

My Review: Love Story by Lauren Layne was a short and rather intense read. It was filled with sizzling chemistry, misunderstandings, emotional drama, and "you were meant for me" vibes.

My Final Say: What do you get when you pair a "little sister" with a hot guy with a troubled past? Love Story is the answer. Readers who want a fast-paced read with angsty characters who genuinely care about one another but who have trouble fully expressing themselves will love this romance.
