Great story. I enjoyed it as much as I hated parts of it...which is why it was so good. I still cannot say I fully liked Audra but it all fell in place when it counted.

It's okay, but the cruelty in this duology is something I would only give to seasoned Ella Fields fans or people that were looking for some dark stuff specifically. I found that what these books did bring to the table wasn't drastically different from any of her other books to justify how far off the deep end it went with some of the content (check the TW's).
With any romantacy sequel, there's a first act separation or break up to keep the plot going. While I hate the concept, this one was done in a way that made sense to me. That being said, there isn't a lot of staying power here. I doubt I'll read these again.

I enjoyed this one more than the first as there was only one couple to focus on. The FMC was more tolerable this time and it felt like a true romance. Audiobook narration was good as the narrator had a sharp edge that fit the character. Still kinda bitter about how it went down in the first book, but hey I'm not the author. 😅

Moderate: Violence, Alcohol
Epic Conclusion
I cannot praise this book enough. I was completely blown out of the water and it was totally worth the wait. Upon beginning this book we are immediately pulled back into this fantasy world, but things have gone astray and everything is not what it seems.
My heart physically aches from this story. It seems that around every corner there is a new secret lurking. I have to say that the way this is written is absolutely genius. It may be obvious to some who the Stray Prince could refer to, but I promise that’s only the tip of the iceberg. I went into this having my suspicions confirmed, but everything was turned upside now when I figured out what was really going on. Just as it’s predecessor, this story contains a tangled web of lies, secrets, broken hearts, and a whole bunch of smoke and mirrors.
To those wondering my opinion on whether this is more epic than AKSC, I may be biased (see first sentence) but I’d have to say no. I don’t think anything can top that book it was so unique and just the peak of writing. This book, however, does need to be read, while I don’t think it’s better than AKSC, it is equally enchanting and in a league of it’s own. The two really can’t be compared because they tell two different stories.
One of the top issues I had with this book was character development. I don’t really feel like most of the characters progressed forward like last book. I actually feel like Audra made a slight regression, but it does eventually lead to a big breakthrough for her, so I was okay with this. I also felt like this story was solely just about one character and everyone else was just a side-character, including the other main characters. As opposed to the last book, where every character played some vital role and their stories brought a new level of interest to the playing field. I was missing the emotional turmoil that I felt when I first dived into this world. Yes, this does this have angst, but not on the level as the last book. It was difficult for me to connect with the villain in this story in any way. I personally didn’t feel like I knew enough about them to be able to, plus, every move they made was something that could be predicted. I would have loved this more if I actually ended up hating him instead of feeling a deep dislike for one half of our mated pair.

I have conflicted feelings on this book. The first 50% I was riveted and could not put it down. Then the second 50%, I felt Audra's character growth was ruined. I do understand what she did and why but Zad was spot on when he said that was not love. And by the end of this book, I no longer felt Zad or Audra's love. I felt Zad lost so much in this book. Sure they got their HEA but I just didn't buy it.

Idk why but this really felt the like the story was unnecessarily dragged on and certain plot twists could've been done with zero need to reusing the whole "kidnapped damsel" thing. And the amount of character assassin tion at the cost of trying to make certain characters look good definitely got me speed reading through it which is sad because I actually like those characters in the first book.
The plot was good. But the relationship tension was awful.
This could have been an amazing book if Audra and Zad had been working together instead of constantly lying and working against each other. After she finds out he's fae, why doesn't he come clean and get them on the same page to join forces? Even if we, the readers, didn't necessarily know the whole time, it would have been better. My first hatred was how mad Zad was about the things Audra did. She was absolutely right. She got his wings and outsmarted Ryle. Zad had no right to be so angry, which leads me to the second thing I hated. The plot was over at like 70% in and then we had to spend another 60 pages on them being mad at each other and not knowing how to make up. What the hell was Zad's problem? She forgave him at the end, but I wasn't ready to yet. And then the epilogue - why does it always have to be babies/kids? I wish they had stopped after the one year later part.
