This was just okay for me. The writing wasn't bad, but it was completely from the h's point of view, so I never felt like I got the whole story. It would have been nice to get Asher's point of view. The other thing for me was that Zara was annoying for most of the book. She came across as really immature for a 30 year old. At the beginning of the whole dog situation, I can't tell you how many times I rolled my eyes at her. She grew up with dogs so she knew what she was doing? Yeah, no. Then there was finding out Asher's secret. It was bad enough that she did, and didn't have a conversation with him about it. Then she felt like it was her business to share with their whole friend group? Again, not the most mature decision. I was just glad she didn't act all innocent when Asher found out that she knew. Everything works out pretty easily, and Asher and Zara get their HEA. This was a first for me from this author, but I would read her again.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.

I received this as an arc for my honest review

This was the first book by the author that I’ve read but I hope it won’t be my last. The story was cute and engaging. I liked the chemistry between Asher and Zara, they were so sweet together. I liked it.

Just okay. 2 stars overall, 3 stars to me for finishing. If you need a quick read or palate cleanser after a more serious book then this will do it. It won’t be memorable the next week. The story is set in London and the friend group has a mix of Americans. The usual bit of differences in lingo which last the entire book. Really there should be an unspoken rule as to how many times the word snogging can be used in a story. Cringe. I found myself skimming quite a bit and I didn’t miss a thing by doing so. I definitely did not laugh out loud or have much emotion reading and I love a fun rom-com. The main characters were best friends for 75% of the book and then one kiss in and they were in love. No real build up or anticipation. Lacking in the ROM and the COM.

BRIEF SYNOPSIS: Zara is about to be 30 and is stressing about not finding The One. So she comes up with a plan and asks her best friend Asher to be her back-up guy: when they’re 35, if they’re both still single they’ll get married. Sounds like a great plan right? It would be. You just have to make sure you don’t fall in love with your back up guy.

I ended up really enjoying this book. Honestly it started out a little slow for me and I had a hard time getting into it. It may have just been the timing of when I read it and just being busy. But regardless I just wasn’t sure how I was going to like it. But then it really pulled me in and I was dying to finish it and know how it ended. I loved the premise of this book: yes, Zara and Asher are best friends so technically this is a friends-to-lovers romance, but I loved the added element of them being each other’s backups. That’s something I haven’t seen in a romcom and I thought it was pretty unique.

So apparently this is the first book in a series that’s kind of a spin off of another of O’Keefe’s serieses, and I didn’t realize that until I started reading it. This is the first book in the It’s Complicated series and Zara is the sister of Sebastian, a main character in the Love Manor series. I have the first two books of that series on my kindle and am excited to read them. I am also so excited to read book 2 of this series because it’s enemies to lovers and I need to see more of Kennedy and Charlie!

I originally gave this book 2 stars because I like to save the one stars for books that I DNF(which is almost never). After sleeping on it I decided to go back and give it a one star after all. There is too much that I didn't like about this book that I don't ever know where to start...It was just a mess. I'm just going to stick with the main storyline and characters, although I do have opinions on the rest of the book. This book had a unrealistic plot, characters, and dialogue. The main character was annoying and the "romance" (if that's what you want to call it) was non-existent. There was not any chemistry or lead up to the relationship. It just wasn't, until it was. Their relationship "hurdle" was just dumb. There was just too much silliness in this book for me. I don't mind quirky and fun but this was over the top, just plain unnecessary goofiness.
