3.75 This started off a little slow but after the 25% mark it took off and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Well written, good world building and the relationship had a nice slow burn with a tortured hero and the girl who saves him. Looking forward to the second book.

Very enjoyable. Its red riding hood meets beauty and the beast. I did find some of the action scenes hard to follow. I had to reread a few sections and I still didn’t fully understand what’s happening. Think this would be an amazing movie or tv series!

This felt like an incomplete fantasy novel in terms of world building and plot. Honestly, I barely understood what was going on and could barely comprehend the ending. The plot and world were very weak. There was even LEGGINGS spotted! What is it with fantasy books always having characters wear leggings, it never makes sense.

Now, the romance. This book is the textbook definition of instalove. Sick of this already!! And then they get married around 30% through the book, and it’s arranged as a CHOICE, so she chooses to get married to a guy she’s known for like two weeks? Smart! Also, any time they said “Lady Wolf” in the story, I cringed so hard. What kind of title is that??? And of course he is dark and brooding, he’s CENTURIES years old, and he was stated to he “a head and a half taller than her” which is totally a wattpad height difference. I also just hated the w stupid “replacement” words for swear words like kings and shadows even though they use regular swear words like shit as well.

Overall, enjoyable. I'll probably listen to book 2.
.
This is a story about sisterhood, bargains, the importance of communication, and friendship.
I felt like there were a couple missed opportunities in the magic of the world, but the characters are all likable and I liked the ties to Little Red Riding Hood and Beauty of the Beast.
.
I had some issues with the style-it edged from beautiful to over written fairly often. I had some issues with the character development (or yo yo regressions) but still found the story overall enjoyable enough to keep going. I think.
Though if I had been reading instead of listening I probably would've skimmed the final battle because I was so annoyed the forest went from whole to worse than before literally overnight.
.
Upon reflection brought it down to 3 stars because of how many missed opportunities there were. Narrator was great. I might still read book 2.

One thing that I particularly love about this book is the emphasis on the strong loving relationship between the two sisters, Red and Neve, and their selfless (albeit, often misguided) actions and sacrifice to keep each other safe.

I loved the complicated relationship between the Wolf and the Wilderwood, blood and bone and branch and magic. There were beautiful and grotesque cinematic scenes, gorgeous imagery, and some beautiful prose.

Overall, some more editing would have helped the novel to flow. There was a lot of repetitive description and action (so much hand flexing) that I would start skimming, and then need to go back and reread in case I missed some of the well-turned prose I was trying to savor.

This is my second read through, in anticipation of the sequel, and I found that the story flew by and was still a fun and engaging book.

Does anyone else feel bamboozled into thinking this book had actual wolves in it? I went into this wholeheartedly believing that this book had werewolves or something wolfy in it. Red, the FMC called him "the wolf" so much, even after learning his name - The whole town does. Yet, even after they get married its "Lady Wolf" and "the Wolves" like....huh?? Let's just make this clear, although Eammon "The Wolf" has lived for many centuries we are meant to believe he is just a man, and he does NOT transform into a wolf or have any wolf tendencies.  Its just a curse that makes him this way? Okay, cool but then at the end he gets horns. HORNS!! LOL. It is so funny because I think I may be the only person who was expecting some werewolves shape-shifting action and is taking it as some sort of betrayal when you finish the book only to look dumb AF.
Moving on, there was so much receptiveness going on in this book as well. Lots of use of words like "in her middle" when Red was channeling her magic and "twilight" whenever they looked up at the sky. I couldn't take the action scenes seriously half the time because I was too busy cringing at Red referencing to her magic's holding spot as "her middle". She said this EVERYTIME she was channeling. What I did like about the book. The romance scenes were cute, I love me a good slow burn. The found family part of the book, LOVE IT. Hell, even Neve and Red's relationship was wonderful. Although this book didn't start to get even remotely interesting until like 60% into the story - I did enjoy the pace. Everything that happens, happens in the span of months but it doesn't feel rushed at all.
I am sure younger me would've eaten this up and rated it 5 stars but it was a solid 2.5 for me.
