The Hiding Place is a book about Corrie, her sister and father, and what they did to help hide Jews during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. They had created a space in their home to help hide people and were eventually sold out. One of the forefront themes of the book is forgiveness, with the narrator (Corrie) doing her best despite what she went through.
This was another book that I highly recommend even though it’s hard to read. It makes me want to be a better person.

Such a great book. I read it years ago and am glad that I listened to it this time. Very inspirational!
Okay, so I may be a little biased in this review. My mother read this book when having me and named me after Corrie Ten Boom. I first read this when I was very young, I was an avid reader and once I grew bored with the Baby Sitter Club and had devoured lots of Roald Dahl, I started testing the waters with more grown up material. This book is one of the only ones that truly stuck in my mind. It truly changed the way I saw the world. It gave me a huge reality check.
I originally read this book in 2014 then again in May of 2020. During the Covid-19 pandemic. The strength I received from this book to manage this crazy time was monumental. I adore Corrie and wish I were 1/10000 of the person she was. Her strength, courage, honesty, humility, naivety, goodness, purity was beyond any I have ever heard of. Her reliance, honesty with devotion to God was a stunning example of a follower of Christ in the most brutal of conditions. Her mother and fathers example laid the groundwork for her ability to walk out such an unimaginably beautiful life.
Wow. This is one of those books that put fiction to shame. You couldn't make up the power in this story. Told from the first-person viewpoint of Corrie ten Boom, this book tells of her family's work with the Dutch Underground movement during the Holocaust. As she recounts her experiences aiding and hiding Jews, and her eventual time spent in a concentration camp for this dangerous service, her faith in God and perpetual optimism and joy triumph over the evil of the hour. And what's even more amazing is her humility. She never praises her own work or her own faith--she is constantly highlighting the good works and love of others (her father, her mother, her sister, and, ultimately, Christ). Just remarkable. I will be buying this for my shelves for sure.
