I really liked the connection between stories in this one. It's good to see the two girlfriends both get their man. And the heroines were NOT Mary Sues! Not even Mary, who ends the book still scared of every kind of animal ever. No one allowing them to just wander around in the Outworld to be kidnapped by another demented Mercile employee or cult member.

Why did I always think Snow was a Feline Species? I guess I didn't pay enough attention to the previous mentions.

Ascend makes a brief appearnce, the first since (IIRC) his encounter with Slade in the forest during the rescue of Doc Trisha. Again, his species is not specified or implied.

Two more new NS: Wind and Chimes. I would love it if these turn out to be siblings. I know Fury and Darkness are cross species brothers, so how about a brother and sister with coincidentally coordinating names?

A new Feline is introduced: Lapis, named for his deep blue eyes that resemble the stone. He insists humans are terrible, even if they are pretty and share sex with Species. He's going to have a human mate before long, I'm sure.

I'm noticing a pattern with Feline Species..."Human women are (terrible/fragile/too loud when they scream in terror) and I would never mate one." Five minutes later: "Allow me to introduce my new human female mate." (See Valiant, Justice, Brawn, Tiger, especially Darkness...)

A big disappointment !!

I don't know what's going on these days but I have the impression that each book I read is worse than the precedent ... That's why I turned to a series that I thought safe ...
EXCEPT NOT !!
I love the New Species series, I was very disappointed by this book ><

The first story with Mel and Snow was cute but nothing more (romance a little too easy, I would have liked more suspense ><) but the second with Mary and Lash ... This is one of the first times I quickly go through all the pages of a book to get to the end faster !!

For a series where the issue of rape and consent is very often addressed, I was shocked by the first meeting between Mary and Lash !!
SpoilerBasically, Mary is so terrified that she doesn't react when Lash falls on her ... And so it is clearly a rape !! And when she starts to find him "tender" and she "realizes" that he doesn't want to hurt her ... This is clearly the Stockholm syndrome !! And yet, they supposedly fall in love and they are going to have a child ... Unrealistic !!

For me, this scene was the end even before the first dialogue between them !!

To sum up, I hope the next book will be better (I want the story of Jaded !!)

I liked both stories, I loved all of the characters. My only issue was I didn't get enough character development and I'm sure that's because we got 2 stories in one, which is great but I found myself wanting more with each couple. All in all it was a good book but I think I was expecting more after having to wait so long for this book.

I don't like Lash. And I expected more for Snow. Mel was OK, but the story was just meh.

I liked Lash’s book better than Snow’s, but honestly I didn’t really ‘enjoy’ either of them fully. I liked parts, but I think that was mostly because it was finally a NS world. I tried to like it, but just couldn’t. It wasn’t 100% horrible, there were bits I liked, but overall I just think it was ok.

Maybe I wanted a primate story too much and so nothing could live up to that. Honestly, I NEED Oak, especially as a wild zone NS, make it super Tarzan like & I’ll love it. Keep them living in the trees, go full animalistic, 10/10 would love. But I doubt that will happen. We’ll see I guess.

I’ve waited far too long for this.
I wasn’t keen on the VLG series and was really looking forward to a new addition to one of my favorite guilty pleasures.
It didn’t amaze me, nor did it fall flat.
The writing is as always simplistic, but I actually like that in these books even if it sometimes wears a bit on my nerves. I just wish there hadn’t been so much background noice with dialogues telling me stuff instead of showing it.
The first story in this book was really the strongest imo. Snow and Mel was sort of sweet, albeit a bit boring.
The second one about Lash and Mary threw me a bit.
Spoiler How is it sexy that a big strong male has sex with a terrified, significantly smaller woman? How could everyone just brush it off?

Both heroines must have swallowed the blond pill (sorry fellow blonds, they just give us a bad name). Both were babbling cartoons. Especially when they had been exposed to the manly males who apparently licked all of their functioning brain cells out of them.

Still this is my guilty pleasure and I really would have rated it 4 stars if the initial meeting between Lash and Mary had been so cringy. As it is I can only give 3 stars even though I enjoyed most of both stories.

This book also contained two stories, and I thought that they were funny.

The first story was about Mel and Snow. Mel works at a diner that Snow frequently comes to, but they never spoke to each other. One time when Snow was there, two men came in to shoot the Species, but Mel finds her boss’s shotgun and shoots them both. She’s taken to Medical at Reservation and after that Snow comes to visit her a few times to convince her to be his mate.

I thought that this book was funnier, but at the same time it was a bit more drawn out because Mel insisted on dating Snow first (if two dates count). I liked both Mel and Snow, and while I really liked Mel meeting some other Species (at the cafeteria), the scene wasn’t long enough.

The second story was about Mary (Mel’s best friend) and Lash. Mel convinced Mary to come to the Reservation for her wedding, and during the wedding Mary goes to hide in the toilets. Two Species pass and she hears them talking and thinks that they are hunting her (that was ridiculous and annoying), so she climbs into a vent, which collapses. She ends up in Lash’s area in the basement, and he decides that she’s his mate.

The idea of this story was interesting since in the first story Mary is portrayed as being terrified of all animals as well as Species, and Lash is from the Wild Zone. However, Mary quickly gets over her fear, and while I liked Mary and Lash’s interactions, not much happened. Something happens at the end which means that Lash meets Mary’s parents, but that scene is cut short, so you don’t see any of it.

While I liked this series, I don’t think I’m going to try others by this author because there aren’t enough interactions with other characters.
