This book was weird and I hated the narrator.

The accents in Fury's Kiss were laughable. I couldn't take the characters or the narrator seriously - especially when she did her guy voice. Speaking of the characters, I didn't like Jackson. I didn't want to ship him and Tara even if the smut was a bit good. No, because I hated him. Ugh the way he talked to and treated Tara made me rolls my eyes and plan his death at the same time. Besides her, the way he took "charge" of his sister and her kid was frustrating. It's like everyone's drinking crazy juice because I would've snapped at my brother if he ever did that to me. I don't give a flying fuck who you are in my life.. it's my invisible and fake kid - not yours!

Then there's Tara.. and ugh, I just can't! She constantly did stupid shit and I just ended up getting annoyed. I'll admit, these two had some weird ass chemistry going on throughout the book.. but the weird shit was just too much for me.

Overall, this book wasn't for me. It had potential but just turned out to be a disappointment. I'm sad because I picked this book for a BR and I definitely have to question my choices on books now.

“There are more things in heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.”

I don’t know how I stumbled across Fury’s Kiss but I am really ecstatic that I did. 4.5 Kick Ass Heroine Stars.

This is the debut novel by Ms. White and it has everything that it should have. Humour, suspense, love, a grouchy Hero and a strong headed heroine. The secondary characters only added to the story and the detail that was created.

I actually read this book in one sitting and informed my hubby to leave me alone. Bless him, he is very patient when it comes to my reading addiction.

Jackson Bryne is a broody, gorgeous man with some demons. Who doesn’t believe in supernatural, really it had it coming. He is judgmental but the situations that Tara puts herself in, he in the end does save the day. He tries to deny the chemistry between them but they fail.

Tara Walker is a waitress but one day she would like to fulfil her dream of opening up a restaurant. After a date gone horrible bad and meeting the guy of her dreams that ignores her. You’d think her day couldn’t get any worse, right? Wrong. She fights for her life and does the unthinkable. She gains powers and ally she never thought could happen. Due to some witnesses things get complicated.

Tara is a strong heroine and takes everything in stride.

I’d killed a man and cursed another, been beaten up and shot at, and been mistaken for a prostitute in the past twenty-four hours.

With the help of her awesome friends Rachel and Alex they get to the bottom of it. But evil is still hot on their heels.

So with finding out that Tara is a Fury, there also being the New England Serial Killer in the area. The crazy neighbour Mrs. Hadley who is an absolute riot. Ruby the mini oracle who needs saving along with her mother Nora. Being on the run from the FBI and fighting pure evil what more could you want to stop leading a boring life.

What I liked is that the story is original and it isn’t based on the point of view from the Greek God and their Posse but that the Furies get to shine, avenge and kick some serious butt. The world building, there was never a dull moment when it came to this book.

That there was a balance between Tara coming to terms with Alecto the fury in her and herself without giving up her identity. Alecto really wants her sisters though Tisphone and Megaera and guess who they are. Yep, Alex and Rachel. Alex is up next and I can’t wait. I do have two questions though, is Tara now immortal? If yes what about Jackson?

** review for BareNakedWords **

For being a debut novel Nicola R. White has done an absolutely amazing job at delivering one hell of a book.

‘Fury’s Kiss’ is the perfect blend of modern day meets Greek Mythology, and one that will have you reading until the very end. I was hooked from the start and ended up staying up all night to finish just so I didn't have to stop.

Tara Walker’s life as she knew it was about to change after one horrific night leaves her beaten, and doing something she never thought she was capable of. With ‘something’ taking up residence within her, Tara and an unlikely team of allies must race against time and the police to uncover what exactly their life now entails.

Something dark and sinister is lurking in the shadows…

“Something dark was stirring, perhaps as old as Alecto herself, and I had been chosen to be her champion in the war against it. Her sister in arms, as she was my sister in spirit.”

I liked Tara’s character and the way she struggled to come to terms with her new ‘abilities’ and the danger that seemed to be stalking her. She wasn’t one of these characters who took everything in her stride and just coped. She was afraid of losing herself in the process of what was happening to her and we watched as she grew to accept everything and to find a balance and understanding between and Alecto.

Jackson, for me seemed very indecisive when it came to what he actually wanted when it came to Tara. He hated her, but couldn’t seem to stay away from her. The only thing he was certain of was what lengths he would go to, to protect his loved one; Nora and Ruby, and that is one thing I did admire him for.

“With Nora and Ruby. He was a dedicated, selfless protector. While with me, he was male chauvinism personified.”

The secondary characters were just as important as the main. Enough that I wouldn’t even call them secondary characters. I loved the relationship between Tara and her two roommates and the fact that although they didn’t really understand what Tara was going through, they put themselves on the line to help her. They were after all the Three Musketeers.

Yes there is an aspect of romance in this book between Jackson and Tara, but that isn’t what attracted me to the book or what I enjoyed most. I loved the back story and getting to know all the Greek Legends about The Fury’s. Nicola did a wonderful job at explaining everything clearly so you wouldn’t become lost or confused and you could tell a lot of research and time had gone into the writing.

This is a great start to what looks to be a promising series and I cannot wait to watch it all unfurl right before my eyes.

If you are looking for something a bit different, then I would highly recommend you check this book out. It has just about everything you could ask for in a book; likable characters, suspense, humour, and a bloody good plot to bind it all together.

I found this book to be entertaining and fun. An enjoyable light read with a dash of erotic romance and enough action based urban fantasy to keep me turning pages.

The breakdown:

Plot: The plot was largely predictable, but not beat you over the head obvious. I wasn't a fan of how large bits of information seemed to spill out of various characters whenever it was convenient, but at least those moments were spread out enough that it didn't drag things down. A nice fast pace made up for the clunkier bits of plotting.

Pacing: Quick and entertaining. I didn't find anything that dragged too much. Even the large chunks of exposition were separated enough by action, and woven well enough into conversation that the pacing kept things afloat where they might otherwise have sunk.

Character building: I found that the characters were entertaining and reasonably well developed. We were mostly spared from giant info-dumps on their personal stories and allowed to see them reveal their character through normal interactions. The only thing I found difficult to swallow was the interaction between the MC and her love interest. I didn't feel that their relationship developed in a meaningful and reasonable way. Yes, I get that some of that is due to supernatural influence, but... their love, hate, love reactions to each other struck me as forced and awkward and not how humans (or partial humans) would actually interact. Also, the MC was occasionally a bit denser than she actually seemed to be whenever it suited the plot.

World building: Of course with urban fantasy a lot of the world building is already done, but I was happy with the overall consistency and limitations placed on the fantasy elements. There are a couple of things that might be troublesome if they're not wrapped up by the second book, but for the most part the supernatural power/annoying deficit balance was upheld well enough to keep me from smacking my forehead too often.

Writing: The style is fast paced, action oriented. No flowery prose here. The descriptions are just enough to get you through the scene knowing what's what. I think that suits the book well and fits with the first person narrative of a modern twenty something.

Editing: There were more typos and errors than I would have liked, but not so many that I was constantly thrown from the text. I was thrown by the idea that two characters who appear to be siblings at one point in the book are later explained to be in-laws only. It's possible I misinterpreted their introductory relationship, but I think it was an editing error. As I read the ebook it's more difficult to go back and check. For the most part though the text was reasonably well edited.

Overall, as I mentioned, an enjoyable light read. I enjoyed the characters and premise enough that I will be checking out the second book in the series.

Ugh there was so much about this that bothered me so fucking much.

First Jackson. This douche canoe made me so mad every time he stepped on the page. He was so damn condescending to Tara because he was older. And I definitely thought he was 50 at first, which was fucking creepy. Then, he fucking tries to constantly tell Nora what to do/how to raise HER child. Like dick no. I don't care if you're the kid's uncle. She has a mother and you can back the FUCK off.

I will admit that there was chemistry between Tara/Electo and Jackson. However, they went at each other at such damn weird times. And they fucked outside, like why? Fucking weird twats.

The story was okay. I didn't really care that much. Tara did plenty of dumb things which pissed me off. Though I was fascinated by the Fury aspect. But I hated the narrator. Within one minute of hearing her, she gave me a headache.
