Best believe that when I’m a mom I’m going to lecture my kids on the importance of 8 solid hours of sleep.

Great and easy read. I learned alit about the power of good sleep and the ramifications of too little sleep. I am changing my sleep habits, only wished I had read this when I was much younger.

We all know that sleep is important. Many see it as the third pillar of health with nutrition and exercise as the other two. Matthew Walker argues that it is not merely a third pillar but the entire foundation for good health. Using evidence from studies and epidemiological data Walker is able to show the true importance of sleep in every single aspect of health. If sleep is as important as the evidence provided here suggests, then our governments and education systems have failed to stress that. This book is very clearly written and outlined into four separate sections covering different aspects of sleep. I found it to be an educational experience from which I learned a lot. However, I cannot call this a "perfect" book. At a few points, I believe that Walker chooses to convey information with simplicity to the point that the subtleties that should've also been conveyed are lost. Also, there are a few points at which the relationship between correlation and causation is blurred (especially when the author talks about the risks of sleeping pills). This is a major red flag for any person with a moderately scientific education. I would like to see this book edited to either clarify the relationship mentioned above or to correctly assess the data as inconclusive if it is so. Nevertheless, this book is supremely interesting in its content and delivery. I would recommend this book to any person who cares about their health, mental and physical. Final rating: 4/5.

I think EVERYBODY should read this book! It explains the physiological purpose of sleep and what happens to our body, instantly as well as over time, when we are not getting enough sleep. It will scare you to straight (to sleep). Important information to have as we navigate life and try to make the best choices for our health and ourselves. The audiobook was well done but I'm considering picking up a physical copy as well to easily revisit various sections.

3.4999999, Super nice book actually, it was so interesting. I loved the neuroscience aspect of it. Reason why I don't rate it a 5 is because honestly the way some chapters are written might scare the crap out of some people. I've even heard some people developing sleep anxiety because of this book, if you think you might, you should definetely talk to people who read the book and skip a couple of chapters. That said, book had some really relevant info, but just be careful, mindful, and don't worry too much if you can't follow what he says.

Amazing, interesting, compelling. The list of things that I will allow to interfere with my sleep, already short, is now even shorter. The things I experience after a night of little sleep - e.g. impaired memory, an inability to speak foreign languages, heightened emotions - are not figments of my imagination, or unique to myself. Sleep is incredible!
