I do wonder if it might tie into volume one in the future which might help me like it better. For now, it's a mediocre story that wastes the potential of its subject matter. Not bad, just flat.

I found the lack of continuity with there being no characters from vol. 1 in this edition a little jarring, but the art style was gorgeous still and this story was compelling and I will keep going with the series for sure.

The Beauty, Vol. 2 is a prequel series to the first volume, introducing new characters and a new part of the timeline in The Beauty's spread.

I think this series suffers as a whole from jumping straight into the action (including some gorgeous and very satisfying blood flying), without really explaining the sides and stakes of the various factions in the book. Here, we have what appears to be a drug smuggling/dealing empire, and a few rogue members who decide to take it down for their principles/adopted family/love, and later revenge. I finished the book happy to have gotten to know the new characters (especially our trans lead, who is really interesting), and understanding their new mission, but because I never felt I fully grasped their initial mission in the first place, the stakes and ultimate resolution fell a little flat.

That being said, I'm looking forward to the next volume, which I'm hoping bridges some gaps and fleshes out the story.

Volume one of beauty was a police procedural set in a world where an STD makes you beautiful but shortens your lifespan significantly.

This volume presents an entirely new cast, and we see the world through a prosperous if crime families. It's like a much less racist 100 Bullets.

Most of the story is perfectly passed, though the dialog gets copy by the end.

There are the artists in this collection, and I enjoyed their different styles but, as in volume one, I kept noticing that the characters were at odd angles to the for, or they were climbing stairs in a fashion that no human had every climbed stairs. I don't think I've ever been so aware of this particular artistic issue as I am with this title. It's weird.

But it's still a fun story for people who looked Chew's weird world building but wish it was less funny and less focused, or for people who wish 100 Bullets was less of a racist trope exploitation.

In this book we depart from the storyline in the first volume and instead follow two people who were infected by beauty and how it changed there lives. This was a little jarring because I was expecting a continuation of the first book but in the end I didn't mind.

The story centers around revenge. One story is about a young man who gets his revenge and then uses the disease to escape detection. The other story focuses on a young woman who has beauty to be close to the woman she sees herself as. During her journey something happens to her family and she goes out to get her revenge against those who harmed her.

The woman, Ez, goes through a transformation during the story which I found most interesting. I liked it more the the revenge plot that was honestly just pretty basic. I think if it wasn't for her transformation story I would not have been as interested.

Still it was an alright read and will continue with the series.

A solução? Adquirir a doença.

Neste momento a minha reacção à série é mista.

I was really hoping to get some more insight into the unanswered questions from Vol 1 but we got a completely different story line in a completely different time from of the disease. I really liked it a lot, but now we have even more unanswered questions.
In the very beginning Timo says he kills his whole crew but then we later find out that he worked side by side with Ezerae. So who did his crew belong to?
I hope the story fleshes out even more and I get the answers to my questions.

This was fine and I would’ve enjoyed it a lot more if I understood what does have to do with the part of the first one. Literally none of the characters or plot from the first one was in the one. It was just a whole different story. So what was the point. It was interesting and there was diverse characters and that’s good and it was interesting to see how the beauty could help with that, but what was the point ?
