I mostly picked this book up because of how much I love Victoria Aveyard as a person. I read her Red Queen series and thought it was a solid read. The main character bugged me at times but the story was definitely interesting.

With this book, I liked it but it was so long that a lot of the plot got lost in the excess pages. The storyline is really interesting and I think unique but just needed less fluff to really let it shine! Hopefully this will translate better with the second book (which I already have preordered) but here it was just a little much.

Even though this book was massive, I feel like we didn't get too much characterization for our cast of characters. I want to get to know more of the backstories of Sorasa and Dom especially. And I NEED more of Erida!! Her chapters were always my favorite with her absolute cunning and determination to not be ruled by the men of this world. I adored her and will happily read the next book just for her!

Overall, this was a solid read but leaves plenty to improve upon with the next book. Now I just need to wait for my preorder to come in!

The best part of this was the beginning with the pirates. I really liked Corayne's introduction but all the characters fell flat for me. It wasn't written terribly, but I found it difficult to visualize the fight scenes due to the descriptions. The entire book was hard to get through. I got very close to dnf-ing at 69%...

I was hoping this would be better because I LOVED the Red Queen series but this just wasn't for me. I probably won't read the rest of the series.

“Take your sword and bleed for me, and I will bleed for you. Win us the crown our ancestors could only dream of.”

This book is the definition of a 3-stars book.
“Realm Breaker” is an ordinary, enjoyable YA fantasy book. Not exceptional, but not terrible either.
I didn’t connect particularly with any of the characters, I did not care a lot about the plot; if someone gifted me the second book of the trilogy I’d read it, but I surely won’t spend my money on it, sorry not sorry ://
I read it last month and I can barely remember it? Either my memory is terrible or it just didn’t really impress me.
• Erida & Taristan owned the book, though. Who would want to save the world, if they could destroy it? I wouldn’t. Erida was iconic!!! My favourite character.
• Taristan was interesting only when he was with her.
Honestly, I would be perfectly delighted if Victoria Aveyard announced that “Blade Breaker'' will focus only on Erida. YAAS QUEEN!

A 3 stars read. Enjoyable, fun, not the best book of the year, fundamentally a bit boring, but still worth my time (thanks to Erida).

This was so disappointing.

The story feels generic, like it’s been done so many times before with not an interesting enough twist. The characters are sort of unique, but all through the book I could not get a connection with any of them. And that is with a good reason. This book is fast paced with constant action. They cannot catch a break, and therefore neither can you. Therefore you can not get to know the characters and learn about their relationships. Some parts just felt like they came out of nowhere, like sea serpents in the desert. You are on a horse… how does a sea creature attack you?
At least red queen had an unique plot and you had some time to get attached to the characters. This was not it.

1st read: DNF at page 200
2nd read: skimmed the entire book. It can be compared to the Lord of the Rings books in that they have too much description for mundane things partnered with 562 pages. Needlessly long and boring, I'm more disappointed in now finally finishing the book than I was when I had simply DNF'd it.

Despite what it looks like I really enjoyed reading this book.

The first review I ever saw for Realm Breaker was a 1 star review saying "It's too long, there's too many characters, there's not enough romance." Let me tell you, as a ASOIAF fan, those all sounded like good things to me! I'd been wanting to branch out into YA fantasy and romance isn't my favorite genre. It seemed like the stars were all aligning, so I picked up this book and dove in.

Sorasa Sarn is hands down the best character in this entire book. So much so, it is actually impossible for the rest of the cast to crawl out of her shadow. However, she is such a good character because she is not the main character. Her being a reluctant mother figure to Corayne is just as big a part of her character as everything else she has going on.

Speaking of Corayne, her character had a good start, but fizzled out towards the end of the book. I don't know how, but her
budding romance with Andry
kind of seemed to suck the soul out of both of them.

Now a character who frustrated me is Erida. Again, a strong start to her character, but at some point it feels like she just became
incredibly horny for Taristan and it became half her personality.
It feels like the story is building them up to be, despite many things, 'equals', but they just aren't. At one point,
he asks her when it's just the two of them + the wizard if she'd join their evil death cult, and she immediately thinks 'What choice do I have?' Which is a completely true thought! But the next line follows up with 'but something in Taristan's eyes let her know she has a choice'. Girl! If you say no that red wizard is going to obliterate your ass into smithereens! There! Was! No! Choice!

Long, drawn out feelings short, the book needed either two different things to accomplish it's goals. 1. Make it shorter and make this trilogy into a longer series or 2. Make it longer, ensuring a trilogy, and giving space between the entire mess that was the events of the last 100ish pages.
