This book is incredibly emotional and sort of relentless. Poor Jill cannot catch a break and she just keeps getting pummeled with one bad experience after the next. And when she tries to take on her new next door neighbor’s issues as well, things only get worse.

I wasn’t honestly sure where this book was going to end up—there’s a bit of a love triangle… kind of, maybe, sort of… but it’s done in a way that feels real and truthful, not just an angsty addition to the story. And I completely respected where Johnson ended up taking the romance. There were some very touchy moments and many mistakes were made on all sides (just like in real life), but the ending was hopeful and realistic… and gave me just what I was wishing for.

I’m not gonna lie, this isn’t a quick and easy read. Some of the topics that are tackled are tough to swallow, and Jill suffers through a lot of emotional turmoil (which leads her to not always make the best decisions). And lots of things in Jill’s life are messy—her family life (loved her fantastic relationship with her dad, but her mom… ugh!), her friendships (which were solid and amazing, but still caused her confusion and turmoil, especially when it came to Sean) and of course, the romance. (Can she fix the broken Daniel? Would a relationship between them be wrong? Can she ever get over Sean? Does she want to?)

In the end, this book put me through an emotional ringer, but it’s the type of book I’ll be thinking about for quite some time. I highly recommend it and give it 4/5 Stars.

3.5 pretty good book! Very intense and dramatic while light and funny. Wish the romantic line could've been set up a bit better. Good book overall.

When I was approached to read with the chance of a review If I Fix You, it didn't take me long to say yes. Not only is the cover stunning (I'm a judger of covers) but the synopsis also drew me in. I had to know more about Sean, Daniel, and the reason her Mum left.

Jill is someone who was very easy to like, for me she is the perfect mix of girly girl and tomboy. She isn't afraid to get dirty and greasy, especially if it means getting under the bonnet of a car in need of repair. She is a strong and determined girl and seeing what she has gone through makes this even more apparent. I love the relationship she has with her Dad, how they work well together and make thier garage work. He would go to the ends of the earth for her....or even an auction to get her dream car. After seeing what happened with her Mum I felt so sorry for Jill and how it affected her.
Sean is someone we see through Jill's eyes, and we initially see the bad bits, the parts that are stuck in her mind and made her question her feelings for him. But with Claire as the buffer Jill is able to tolerate his presence in small doses.

If I Fix You was a book I could not put down and finished it quickly. There was a lot more going on within the pages than I initially expected, but I love how it all played out and connected together. We have Sean who Jill has loved for years, but has to push that love aside. Daniel is the new neighbour, who comes from a broken home and has his own issues, but is someone who Jill can relate to as well as talk to. There are a lot of shock revelations and twists I never saw coming, but in the reveal itself we find out what the true meaning of that word means.

Throughout the pages we see a lot of loose ends tied, but most importantly we see Jill's journey of self discovery, finding out out who she really is, what she is capable of, as well as the closure she desperately needed in order to continue with her life and her friendships.

Final Verdict
If I Fix You is a book that I really enjoyed, and although another book is in the works that doesn't directly follow If I Fix You, I can't wait to read it. Abigail is an author on my watch list and I can't wait to see what comes next.

The parent in me shudders at a relationship in this book that was totally and completely inappropriate. However, this book was addicting. I zoomed through it. It was just what I needed.

Beware Of Spoilers!!

My Thoughts

This book has been on my radar for quite some time now. I finally picked it up and with much disappointment, I disliked it. This book was confusing at times. I really didn't care about Jill too much. I think she was a bit much. I didn't like her attitude throughout the book and I feel like she was meaner than she should have been.

I'm pretty disappointed in this book. I had very high expectations for this book. It was a let down. There were some parts in this book I liked, that's why I'm giving it a rating of two stars instead of one.

I only liked one out of the many characters in this book. That character didn't even get a lot of scene time in this book even though he was mentioned quite a lot.

Pros

Daniel: I loved Daniel. He was a character that deserved so much more of this book. He deserves so much more in life. I'm really kind of hoping that Abigail writes a book for him because I would totally buy it and read it.

Cons

Slow Paced: This book took me longer to read then it should have. I had a hard time getting into this story. I felt like it was never going to end. I was wanting it to be over so bad.

Jill: I really disliked her throughout this entire book. She went on hating and ignoring Sean without hearing his side of the story. She really made the divorce of her parents about her rather than her parents. She kept on saying that her mom didn't leave her dad, that she left her. Um, no sweetheart. She left both of you. She was rude to her friends when she really needed them the most. She led Daniel on even though she knew that their age gap was uncomfortable for everyone.

Jill's Dad: I kinda liked him at first. But every time the mother is mentioned in any way, he shuts down. I mean, I know it's going to happen sometimes. But he shuts down a lot and doesn't ever talk. I feel like he should have just let Katheryn go if he didn't really love her. He was literally suffocating her. He bonded with his bastard child to get back at his wife for having an affair. He's a manipulative man who doesn't deserve the credit he got in this book.

Recommend To

I honestly wouldn't really recommend this book to anyone. I didn't really care for it and I feel like others wouldn't either.

My Rating:
2/5 Stars

3.5 stars. This book was pretty good! I loved the plot and all the plot twists however I was a bit disappointed by the ending I wish things got resolved better. It felt like the author was writing it weirdly so she wouldn’t have to write a scene where jill’s father met Daniel because he met Sean more than enough times. I liked how I didn’t know which boy was endgame but I was also a bit disappointed by the ending.

What a pleasant little surprise! Thanks to the lovely Estelle, for the wonderful recommendation. I came away from this so impressed by how Abigail Johnson handled nuanced characters and a story that could have easily veered into melodrama. Jill was a great main character and the whole car mechanic side of her was a nice interest into see in YA. The incident that happens right before Jill's mom leaves surprised even though jaded YA reader and felt so believable, and even more believable as the story unfolds. The friendships, the romance, and the family all were so spot-on here that I can't wait to read more from Abigail Johnson.

One little qualm (that did not affect my rating in any way), the whole idea that Jill's best friend used to be overweight and developed type 2 diabetes to such an extreme (type 2 diabetes is kind of like a continuum (grossly oversimplifying, but...) and having to take insulin is at the far right of the continuum) just wasn't believable to this (almost) dietitian. Especially since her BFF had a family that seemed like it would not let her get to that point and her friend is so motivated to improve her health. The idea that she, her family, and her doctor would ignore it for so long that her pancreas just stopped producing insulin did not seem realistic.

If I fix you by Abigail Johnson
Jill’s world turns upside down when her mom leaves, only leaving a post-it note behind. Only Jill knows the reason why she left and is unable to tell the reason to her dad. She's known as the girl who can fix anything but this time she's unable to fix herself. When a new neighbour moves in next door she’s able to let go a little and finally tell someone about her life but even he poses next challenges she has to work to over come.
A great novel about letting go of the past and being able to come to terms with it, it was a great read. I loved it because it was full of great twists that you don't see coming but all works out to a great ending. Rating 4 out of 5 stars

Ah, If I Fix You. You are such an amazing book, and you simultaneously broke and mended my heart. If I Fix You is one of the most beautifully-written books I've read, and to this day I still feel the emotions I felt when I first read it. I may not remember exactly what transpired, but my heart constricts just a bit at the remembrance of what it made me feel.

What I loved about this book was how much I truly connected with the main character and how much I truly felt everything that happened in the book. I was so invested and I couldn't help feel what the characters were feeling. I was able to put myself in their positions, and not all authors are capable of doing that.

Another thing I loved is the friendship and the romance. I can't even say much about this for the fear of spoilers, but I truly loved it. I loved how there was no rivalry or planted hate, and how there was just acceptance and wanting the good for the person. Ugh, not sure if I made sense, but it makes sense in my head.

Overall, I loved this book and I felt all the feels. I truly recommend this one!
