I enjoyed the book overall. I thought the lead character was a bit too hot-headed and the hunky man a bit too poorly sketched. He mostly just looks at her and grunts or silently stares at her. There's not a lot of back and forth: she yells, he tells her she's wrong, she yells some more. That's it. But the series has real potential.

I honestly didnt think i was going to enjoy this series, but I'm on book 4 and I am in love and connot put them down!!!!!! They are a cross between small town Stars Hollow (Gilmore Girls) with their very own Taylor (Gilbert), Miss Patty (Martha), even Luke (Marcus), and the Golden Girls ( Dolores, Ruth, and Beverly). I spend most my time laughing at the crazy things they do and say. Absolutely well done and recommend 100000000000%

I found this to be an enjoyable very quick read. I like the small town dynamics and the character interactions. I found the plot to be quite predictable but still enjoyable.

I'm giving this three stars because the premise was really fun and I feel like it could appeal to people who enjoy urban fantasy with small town shenanigans, lots of fun supporting characters, and very unusual enemies to lovers possible future between Tessa and one of the characters. For me, I wouldn't pick it up again because it was simply... too cheesy for me. It reminded me a lot of the first book in the October Daye series which is why I'll probably skim the next book because that also started off a little strange, a little cheesy, and a little off, but it clearly grew from there. Happy reading!

I don't think this is technically YA, but had that feel to it. Fun, easy read at Halloween time.

Whoa ... I love Tessa! She is stubborn, perhaps to a fault, fierce and strong! She goes through what would crush many people with a cheating ex-boyfriend, crushing debt and only one place to go. Her Mother is a real piece of work but her Aunts are real gems. She gets conscripted into MERLIN Group as she is a Davenport witch. She learns she is a special sort of witch and then has to fight a Very Unbalanced Sorceress bent on taking over the world. Oh & then there is Marcus the city Chief ... sparks fly but are they the good type?

I really liked the funny tone and the little pop culture quotes here and there...but that's about it.
I really disliked FMC's personality and the fact that she just acts without a plan or even just a bit of thinking beforehand.
The other characters aren't that deep as well and the story was just not that interesting to me.

It could have been enjoyable enough. I like the setting of a cozy village for supernaturals, three old-ish witches in an old farm house, half vampire as sidekick, hot bear shifter as love interest, an evil coven wanting world domination - the book has a lot going for it. But then there is the FMC, arrogant and bossy, obnoxious and just plain unlikeable. She is repeatedly behaving like a spoiled brat, despite being almost 30. She is inexperienced but still feels the need to tell people what has to be done and how. No thanks.
Another thing that annoyed me was the not so hidden fat shaming. No other character's body shape is being pointed out as frequently as the fat lady's. No, the author doesn't say 'fat' but there are enough synonyms to describe a 'very big' person. Which you can see in this book.

I found this book a little boring. By the end I was a little intrigued by a couple characters, but it felt like it moved very slowly to get to the point where I did care. I didn't hate them, so having the book on while I worked on a few things didn't bother me, but if my library checkout had run out I probably wouldn't have picked it up again.

Witches, shifters, vampires, demons… there’s a lot going on in this story. Tessa comes back to Hollow Cove after a bad breakup and moves in with her aunts - and finds out she’s now part of the Merlin Group and is supposed to help save the town from bad demons. But it’s been years since she practiced magic and she’s not sure what to do. Then there’s the vampire, Ronin, who befriends her, and the shifter-cop who hates her on sight.
There is a lot going on in this story. I enjoyed it up to a point. Sometimes it got a little confusing, but overall, this was a good story. But it is definitely the first in a series because there were a lot of threads left dangling.
Recommendation: Recommended with caution because of the dangling threads and the occasionally confusion.
