I received this book as an arc and I am leaving an honest review voluntarily.

This is Mimi's story. She was introduced in the last book by a friend of Violet's. Amelia or Mimi is only looking for her father's acceptance. When all else fails, she joking a cooking competition, hoping to win his approval.

Calix is a band member who happens to be in the right place at the right time but also her fantasy man. Calix's family is kinda a mess. They seem to be trying to move on but not quite whole after his brother's passing. Their house exists, but the home isn't full of life anymore, more like walking on eggshells.

Things get steamy, and a lot of unsolicited advice flies, but Calix seems to be living again. Mimi is blunt, honest, and has no bs outlook, and I love her personality. This seems a lot more like lust than love. But we shall see where this goes. They both have a lot to deal with and a lot of guilt to overcome.

This book does end happily with a fantastic story. I didn't get as emotional in this book, nor did I feel as much connection to the characters. I did love that the band and characters we know were in the book. This book had many overcoming obstacles for our couple, and maybe I didn't get the grief they had to overcome for Calix to love. I did, however, see the daughter who tried to get closer to her dad, but even that didn't inspire emotions. I did enjoy the story and the sweet names they came up with. I loved that Mimi fought for what she wanted, and her personality really shined through in her actions and words. Calix was a stoic character who had a lot to overcome, but I did love seeing the change in him as the story progressed, even though sometimes he took two steps back. I love the ending of this book, and I love the author's resolution to end this story.

*LOUD SIGH*

So. This book. I had a lot of trouble rating this book. Like I whipped through it: it was an easy, fast read, the pacing was great, the writing was decent enough, I guess, and the story was... interesting. I mean, don't get me wrong, I have a soft spot for the brooding musician types in books, so this was right up my alley in that regard. PLUS I got this book FOR FREE as a prize from work, so that was cool. Buuuuut. I don't know. Something didn't quite click for me I guess?

I mean the chemistry between the characters was there, and it was good, and I liked them both well enough, kind of, but something wasn't quite right for me. Like the longer I read, the less interested I was in their story and their drama.

Drama Llama

THERE IT IS! I think it was too much drama! Like ugghhhhh there comes a point in romance books where this will be a conflict and then all these terrible things and a misunderstanding and if you read romance, you get my drift. And like, it was just too annoying for me in this book. But at the same time, it was different, it was interesting, and overall I thought it was a good premise for a book. I guess I just didn't quite get there with Mimi and Calix.

And honestly, this book started out as like a 3.5-4 star book for me. It just went downhill somewhere in there and I got annoyed. Maybe I wasn't in the right mood. Maybe on another day or at another time I would rate this differently. Maybe it would get 3 stars. But not today. So I guess what I am trying to say is 2.5 stars rounded down because the drama llama made one too many appearances.

This took me a bit of time to get through, a full month, and it shouldn't have. Normally I can read a contemporary romance fairly quickly, with this one the two MC's annoyed me so much, Calix much more than Mimi, that I had to set it down and read other stuff for a while.

As with the other two books, I did have similar problems with the writing style. It was difficult to figure out at times when something was going on or when time passed and we're no longer in the scene we were in before.

I never thought I would dislike a character who loved his family as much as Calix did his family but his love for his family, and I can't believe I'm saying this, it hindered his character. While the feelings he had for them were understandable and I knew why he felt how he did, I still couldn't like Calix. There were so many times that Calix just up and left Mimi, put someone else (even non-family) ahead of Mimi. One incident really bothered me and that was shortly after Mimi told him about how her dad was really never focused on her, ever unless she was doing something he wanted her to do, and then the phone rings and he does exactly what her dad would do, and that's forget she was even there. Then after
SpoilerGus was in the hospital he was a jerk to Mimi, he turned to Shay (who someone called, probably Calix), and wanted her to make Mimi leave.
And he never really told Shay to back off, he kind of would but then he would backtrack and let her act as she did when they were dating or both were single.

With Mimi, it annoyed me how she kept butting into people's business. I understood she only wanted to help but she just met the Bourbon's, it's a little too soon to suggest huge changes for them. Not saying she was wrong in what she was saying but it was done too soon.

This is one romance where I did not want these two together at the end. I wanted Mimi to find someone who put her first. And I wanted Calix to be miserable and watch her be happy with someone else.

Yea, I was not a fan of this one.

Take Me Home Tonight is a sizzling hot addition to Erika Kelly’s sexy Rock Star Romance series. Although this third installment can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend the entire series.

While waiting for her father to finally hire her to work with him, Mimi Romano is passing time cooking for Blue Fire and auditioning for an apprentice spot on a popular cooking show. She is overjoyed to discover she has been selected as one of the five contestants, but she is concerned that her lack of formal chef training will put her at a disadvantage. Lucky for her, Blue Fire’s temporary keyboardist, Calix Bourbon, volunteers to help her hone her skills before the show begins taping. With a sizzling attraction simmering between them it is not long before they give in to their red-hot attraction. Mimi soon feels much more than desire for Calix, but will his emotional baggage ruin their chance at happiness?

Mimi is strong, independent and not afraid to voice her opinions. She is tenacious and stubborn and while these are admirable traits, this leads to tunnel vision as she tries to convince her father to let her work for his company. While she is enjoying the relaxed pace working for Blue Fire, she is impatient to begin the next phase of her life. Determined and focused, Mimi throws herself into learning as much as she can from Calix and his family and she has high hopes she will win the cooking competition.

Calix is an incredibly gifted musician but he refuses to become Blue Star’s permanent keyboardist. His family is extremely close but ever since they suffered a tragic loss, everyone has put their life on hold. Calix is sensitive and caring but he maintains a physical and emotional distance from everyone but his family. He is a man of few words, however, Mimi is able to coax him into confiding some of his problems but at the first sign of trouble, Calix quickly shuts down.

While the sex scenes between Calix and Mimi are incredibly sensual, their relationship frequently gets bogged down by Calix’s unresolved issues. Mimi is quite observant and she is not afraid to offer her insight to Calix, but he is reluctant to take her advice even though he sometimes agrees with suggestions. She pushes him to open up and although he finally does spill some of his secrets, he is quick to shut her out immediately afterwards. This destructive cycle continues for most of the novel and it is very frustrating watching Mimi take him back time and again. She gets some credit for speaking up about the way he treats her, but she soon becomes a doormat when he continues to react the same way time and again.

With plenty of angst, conflict and scorching hot sex scenes, Take Me Home Tonight by Erika Kelly is an enjoyable yet frustrating romance. The characters are well-developed and likable with relatable flaws and problems to overcome. Although this installment was not my favorite in the Rock Star Romance series, it was still a great read and I am looking forward to the next book in this wonderful series.

Although a little slow to start, I really enjoyed this story. It is very different to a lot of the rock star romance I usually read but it's still very good. The story itself is very emotional and sweet. The guys of Blue Fire are hot, yet a tender bunch and boy do they know how to look after their women, and Calix is really no different.

Except for the fact he is dealing with the loss of his brother, and a family he feels is falling apart but one he is determined to save, even at the expense of himself, his career and Mimi. As chef for Blue Fire, Mimi is determined for more, and that means landing a job with her dad. He, however keeps coming up with reasons as to why she is not ready, and is disapproving of her idea to enter a cooking competition on national tv, to gain the experience she believes her dad requires. This is when Calix dad Terrance steps in and suggests Calix help Mimi learn what she needs in order to win the competition, and hopes in doing so it will breath new life into his wife Jo. Who has completely withdrawn from her family since the death of her youngest child. Calix is torn, but after three years of watching his mum struggle, Calix will do anything and as Mimi is drawn into the family, she can't help but get involved and becomes determined to get the whole family moving forward even if at times her ideas and suggestions are a little misguided.

Overall a really great story and the relationship that developed between Calix and Mimi, was lovely to read and at times hot, but what I loved most is when things went wrong, Mimi didn't forgive easily and she really made Calix work to prove he could change and would ultimately put her first and it made the story much more believable and real. In fact I really didn't want the story to end, and I'm sure I will be rereading this book a lot in the future. I would also happily recommend it to others, and I'm looking forward to reading more from this series and hope maybe Lee (Calix sister) and Ben will feature next.

Wonderful story! I adore this series! I thought this was a really great read and couldn’t put it down.

The beginning was a bit slow for me as all the details were laid out but I was totally invested because they were terrific details. I liked Calix and Mimi a lot, both so loving and caring. They had such a strong attraction to one another that had a lot of push and pull going on and I enjoyed the build of their growing connection as they figured out the things that were holding them back. I felt there was a subtle, slow burn to their relationship. They had a wonderful chemistry together that really built and it created a nice amount of heat and want.

I really liked Calix but he was battling some serious inner demons so even though I felt for him, I got frustrated with him and some of the choices he made as he was figuring things out. This however creates a nice amount tension and drama and it leads to some really fantastic, emotional moments. Loved his family and all the healing that was happening and how Mimi played into that. It created a lot of sweet, hopeful moments that made me happy.

Erika Kelly has a way of really pulling me in and making me feel invested in the characters lives. There were some smaller story lines happening throughout and I really enjoyed how they affected the main characters. I loved that there were updates on the other band members and girlfriends. That made me super happy.

Loved the ending and all the emotion that went with it, it wrapped up nicely. It was a really good story that got better and then was excellent. It just had a really great build throughout to a fantastic conclusion. Excellent story line, well rounded, detailed, full of emotions and passion with amazing characters. Another awesome read!

Summary

Calix Bourbon has been with the band for close to a year, and even though on the surface most see him as a  free spirit, there is so much more to him than meeets the eye. Calix is trying to keep his fractured family together. Years previous, Calix had a younger brother who adored him the most. He was down syndrome, but so loving and trusting. On a special night for Calix's career with a signing company, they lost him due to a drug overdose when he wandered away. Calix and his family are still not recovered from that one night that almost killed their family. Now they are trying to keep going strong especially their mother, who lives life mostly in seclusion. Mimi has been cooking for the band for some time now, building a strong friendship with most of the members. She has a high respect for Blue Fire and all they do and the women they have teamed up with. But Mimi has a great opportunity, to show up for a cooking tournament show, one that could set her career on a roll. But she needs help to prove it, and Calix and his family are the ticket. As she begins cooking lessons with Calix and his mother, a strong bond forms between Calix and Mimi. Mimi is a fighter, and as the chemistry builds between herself and Calix, she will show Calix how to fight for the one you love.

The Hero

Calix Bourbon, grew up in a strong and loving family. Close to all of his siblings, but most especially his younger brother who had down syndrome. Calix has quite a bit of guilt and anger riding him hard. He blames himself to what has happened to his family, and has taken it on his shoulders, to repair the damage as much as he can. To get his family back to laughing and loving once more. Calix is a very talented musician and he connects with the band in a way no other ever has but still proves to be reluctant to sign on permanently with them. Calix was a hero that wasn't easy to like at times. He tended to be very rough around the edges, and he can go cold to hot in a moment. His character felt like a ping pong ball. But I did like him, he is definitely a challenge though but has many admirable qualities that shine in this story.

The Heroine

Mimi Romano is trying to prove herself to her father. She always wanted to show her father how talented she is, and that she is worthy to work for him. But her father is a hard man, and all he cares about is his money. Mimi's father was never really there for her growing up. But now after getting a degree, she wants to work for her father. She is hoping being on this cooking show, will prove her worth to him even if he doesn't support her in it. Mimi is driven to succeed in life, but she is also determined to not let her feelings get in the way. When she meets Calix, she knows he is trouble. She refuses to let her be another one night stand for him, and stands her ground on her expectations of an intimate relationship with him. But soon her heart becomes involved, and wants to help heal Calix and his family. I really liked this heroine, she has this great inner strength that I found admiring.

Plot and Story Line

In Take Me Home Tonight we have another great romance from Erika Kelly. In this story, we have the new member of the band. This was a story that I liked quite a bit, and was a bit different than the previous two books...in fact, it was very different. It had a whole new look at a romance, and there were many aspects of this story that I grew to love. The family of Calix is so amazing. I love the close bond this family has for each other and seeing how they try to help each other heal and get beyond the past. Calix has yet to finalize his plans with the band, because of trying to patch his family back together. He doesn't think he can afford to be away from them for too long. Calix is a bit of a bad boy, tends to have many one night stands, and keep his emotions locked away until he gets involved with Mimi. Mimi has a great way of getting emotional responses from Calix, she knows how to push his buttons and really push him in the ways he needs to go.
Let it go. That moment in time you can't take back. Let it go. There is no do-over. You can't fix it. But you're alive, and you're an amazing musician and the most loyal and devoted son and brother I've ever seen. So let it go. And LIVE, dammit.

Calix tends to block out things he needs to un bury and reveal especially to himself but is letting the guilt overtake him in a very unhealthy way. What I liked about these two characters is seeing how well they fit together. They challenge each other, compliment each other, and make each other better in creative ways. I didn't always like the way Calix treats Mimi at times, and their relationship does have a certain level of Angst, but this romance is so well written and is quite unique from what I have read from this author. We have a hero that has to face up to who he is and fight for the woman that he loves and it isn't pretty seeing this transformation or going on his journey to healing fully. I am curious to see what Kelly pulls out of her hat with her next book.

The Cover

I like the colors in this cover, with the warm toned colors, love the keyboard lining the side vertically. It gives off the bad boy image that is Calix.

Overall View

Take Me Home Tonight is a creative and drama filled romance that takes you through tough dilemma's and finding a remarkable love that heals and strengthens. SIMPLY FANTASTIC!!
"Spitfire," He gently tugged on her earlobe with his teeth. "I Love you, Amelia Romano. I love you because you're the strongest person I know. I love your spirit. We're a stubborn bunch of bastards, my family, and we don't let many people in, but you broke through. I love your passion. I need it. Because it matches mine and I shut mine down. But you brought it back out. You brought me out. And I'm not letting you go.
