If you like dark academia, witchcraft, and lesbians, this is the read for you. I was obsessed with the madness and messiness of the protagonist. Was she a little evil? Yes absolutely? Was I rooting for her the whole time? Yes absolutely. The twist in this one was not what I was expecting, I did not anticipate it to be so sinister, but I loved it all the same.
This was a great YA version of The Secret History, but written so much better with characters that had depth. It didn’t drag at all, and I finished this in two days. Also… it’s gay. What’s more to love?

*some spoilers*
This books took turns I did not expect it to take. From the very beginning we are thrust into a world created by a narrator who does not seem reliable. And we are left wondering what is going on the whole time. And it’s not until the very end when we are given a release but nothing prepares you for the kind of release and also the unease that the book leaves in you.
I have read all of Victoria’s books and this one was very different. From the beginning I knew not to trust Felicity but at the same time I was drawn to how she looked at the world. And then comes Ellis a whirlwind of a person who Felicity then is swept away by to the point where sometimes Felicity infuriated me when she went along with with Ellis wanted her to do. But it is not until the reveal when I realized and understood Felicity and that we the audience were only seeing the side of her she wanted us to see until the very end.
Masterful and keeps you on your toes!

I love a book about people who love books, and throw in some magic and witches, set at a boarding school - you'd have to try real hard to get me to dislike that book. A good read, delivers on the promised premise, and I often found myself delighted by the on-the-nose self-awareness the book itself seemed to have. Our unreliable narrator is sympathetic to the point where I wanted to believe everything she told me, even when none of it made sense, none of it fit together.
Definitely should have been aged up into a college age, but kept me reading. Good dark academia and fall vibes.
