funny lighthearted

I have the worst time trying to read this author, but I keep seeing the recommendations, so I tried to give these books another chance. This one is shorter, so I decided to at least finish it, though that turned out to be a mistake.

The writing is all over the place — it's like watching a cartoon inappropriately horny chipmunk overloaded on sugar, caffeine and Viagra. Just reading it is exhausting and disgusting. Ugh. I don't think anything about this book has quality good enough to merit a discussion.

Additionally, I found the [mis] representation of neurodiversity and demisexuality in this book downright offensive.

By now it's very safe to say — this author is not for me. Never again.

If I could give this book more than 5 stars, I would. The banter and writing were so good. There were so many excellent quotes and I just ate this story right up. It gave me vibes of the movie Love Again, and Hillary Duff's A Cinderella Story, but meets Christmas time and an enemies to lovers trope. It was delicious.

SUCH a cute holiday romance. i loved the main characters and the fact that they both work at a bookstore and love reading! love those kinds of books! plus the book has some of my favorite tropes like enemies to lovers and work place romance.

“I kiss the man I love. My happiest happy ending.”

I’m not in the holiday mood this year, and for some reason it just doesn’t feel like Christmas so I’ve been trying to pick up Christmas romances. I can’t bring myself to pick up a full length book, but I found this cute holiday novella which is set in a bookstore - which is adorable and my favourite setting for a book.

This followed Johnathan and Gabriella, who are rival colleagues who work at this old school bookstore which is likely not going to make it to the New Year at the rate it was going. There were two options: to cut expenses, or to bring up their profits majorly. They have a pact that whoever makes the most sales will stay, and the one who doesn’t will leave so the owners don’t need to fire one of them.

Johnathan, my man. He’s a bit of a grinch at Christmas but he’s sort of a sweetie pie deep down. He may seem grumpy at points but he’ll bring her the peppermint hot chocolate that she adores during the Christmas time, and drive or walk her home. And…. he quoted a Jane Austen book when he was talking to her

This book was cute, and I did enjoy the writing style. Funny and quirky. It reminded me a lot of Ali Hazelwood or Sally Thorne. My only complaint is that this leaned in a more Sally Thorne direction, telling before showing. So it wasn’t a perfect book for me. I also really appreciated the neurodiversity rep but felt the way it was sprinkled in felt very stereotypical. Especially since we were in the main characters head, I felt this could have been shown in more insightful and informative ways. But again, I did like the writing style, and I liked our hero. So I’m looking forward to trying something else by this author
