I recommend following the link to my blog below for full review....
I had no idea what to expect or any knowledge before hand other than the bread scene to obsess over. So I didn't really know the feel the author was going for. I mean I knew that it wasn't supposed to be a serious read, but I didn't know the amount of ridiculous he was going for! And oh-my-lanta does he go for the ridiculous of ridiculousness that is out there! The whole concept is just unbelievably awkward it's amazing! And the more you read it just gets better and better, and more ridiculous on top of that.
I honestly wasn't too sure about the first volume though. It was a little meh in my opinion. But if you can get past this first volume and continue on, just know that it's worth the meh-ness of the first volume to get to the others. I highly recommend that everyone gives this a read. If you're not sure like I was about the first volume give the second volume a chance, and go from there. Because I feel if you don't like either the first or 2nd volume, I don't think you'll find yourself enjoying the remainder of the series.
It's also a very quick read. I'm a pretty fast reader, but I'm sure even those who read slower than I do, could finish this book on the same day. It is also manga/comic form so that's also understandable about the quickness of the read. You can also see in the image above that the art itself is very simplistic. I mean super simplistic but I honestly love it for that reason alone. It's got it's own flare, and it goes with the mood of the book.

The movie is so strongly based on the graphic novels, I can’t believe it took me eleven years to finally read them. Spectacular and goofy and fun!
Scott makes me LOL! :D
Edit (2017): He still made LOL.

Classic. This graphic novel introduces Scott Pilgrim and his current life and sets the stage for the later volumes. In this volume, Scott is dating a high school girl named Knives, but is also starting a romance with the mysterious Ramona Flowers. Some band practices, thrift shopping, and battles ensue.
My favorite character will always be Scott's roommate, Wallace Wells. This book is full of classic Wallace moments.
Also, I don't know how O'Malley can make a funny panel with no words, but he does.
This is a quick and funny read...and you will want to continue.

I think teenage boys or really anyone who loves video games will enjoy this graphic novel series. It has elements of manga, some romance and lots of other appealing factors.
I read this because I love the movie, will definitely have to continue but right now it’s not my priority.
I have to be honest, I was not the biggest fan of this. I read it for class, and it wasn’t a very laborious read but I just couldn’t stop thinking about how terribly it portrays all the female characters and frames the masculinity of Scott. The woman are only defined by their relationship to Scott, and him having a 17 year old girlfriend doesn’t sit well with me (nor does the racial politics surrounding her that I won’t even touch here). Ramona is such a “nerd’s ultimate fantasy woman” it’s shocking, and the fact that Scott literally has to fight her exes in order to date her just screams toxic masculinity to the highest degree.
All that being said, I thought the dialogue was for the most part well written and clever, and I liked the way O’Malley used the medium of the comic panels to tell the story in an effectively interesting way. A “good comic” but the story itself just left a bad taste in my mouth.

It was enjoyable, but I’m not sure I’ll continue. I think I’ll watch the show instead.
I picked up the first three books on Saturday, due in part to the many good things I've heard about the series, and the preview for the movie (which looks awesome).
I read all three of the books in a half-hour each. Are they that good? Sure are. (I'm also a fast reader, and as these are graphic novels ...)
My favorite part of these books is the fact that, in Scott and Co.'s canon, the magical is real, and shame on you for questioning it.

I wonder what I would've thought about the comic had I not watched the movie first... That said, the movie did follow the comic pretty much to the T.
Wallace is brill! :)
