Running with a Sweet Talker
Brides on the Run, Volume 2
By: Jami Albright
Narrated by: Jennifer Grace

I am hooked on this series and on Jami Albright! So happyto have found books like this, that are not only funny and have me laughing out loud, but have some meat to the story. Jack and Luanne's story is just that, starting us out with Luanne running from her wedding. Jack helps her getaway, and their fun begins. Now there is definite sparks between these two, so this just aids in building their relationship. It's a slow burn, fast talking, emotional journey. Now, what's to like about this story? Luanne is smart and spunky, but has a side that wants to be loved by her family. Willing to do just about anything for them will be her downfall. Jack is so swoon worthy, I was wondering what his role would be other than to build her confidence, but Albright makes him so much more. With a surprise to his story, we get to see insights to his personality that were not evident. His sweet talking facade keeps his layers hidden. I loved the book, it's complexity, it's hilarity and I can't wait to start the third in this series.

Jennifer Grace's portrayal of the story is spot on. She has amazing comedic timing, leaving me smiling. She quickly can fade into some very emotional scenes without skipping a beat, and her voices are fantastic. She is a narrator I will be watching more from.

This is the first book I have read by this writer, and it won't be the last.

Jack and Luanne were quick witted, funny, and full of laughter. There was also a lot of pain and vulnerability just beneath the surface for both of them.

I loved the fact that they discovered while spending time together, they each could let down the walls they built to protect themselves and be safe with each other.

The characters were well developed. Even the ones you didn't like. The ones you did like left you feeling like part of the family. The story takes you through a range of emotions; happiness, sadness, pain, anger, etc.
I read this book via KU (Kindle Unlimited) and I am so glad I did.

Running With a Sweet Talker is a book of many stories. Luanne and Jack have patented their tough outer shells. Luanne as a take no prisoners ball buster and Jack as a charm you out of your pants sweet talker. But they both have pasts that could have broken them. On their road trip from hell they have lots of truths to come to terms with, it's a good thing they're running together. This book is at times laugh out loud funny at others so sad you could cry, but this one will stick with me for a while. All the feels are there and a great big smile at the end.

Whew! Talk about a sweet talker. Jack is a sinfully good looking man with a mouth that could sweet talk.you into doing just about anything. And Luanne don't take no shit when it comes to things. This book had me laughing so much. So good. If you're looking for a romcom this is it.

Mostly I Loved This Story

So the main reason I'm not giving this a top rating is when they finally hook up, the sex scenes drag on and on. It's not that there's a ton of detail or anything, it's more that if you get to a scene in a book where all you want to do is skim it or skip it in order to get on with the rest of the story, maybe that scene doesn't belong in the book. Some of the countless foreplay scenes of starting and stopping got a little old as well.

That said, the book is otherwise a complete gem. The large cast if characters all but leapt from the page. Even though there were numerous character's included each was unique and stood out separately from each other. With so many people introduced that in and of itself was a fete. The plot was hilarious, from the runaway bride in the opening scenes to the car jacking grandmas humor was rampant throughout the story. Albright also took time to make sure the reader knew theses characters had issues that needed to be dealt with before they could move forward and while the story does take place over a short few weeks it isn't Insta love. Besides the characters having history, living this journey with them you can really see them falling on love. The chemistry is evident from their first interaction, but it's the beautiful way you can see them crossing the bridge from enemies to lovers you can see the cracks in their walls, that's true talent for the genre.

I think sometimes we forget that romance isn't about the sex scenes or a writer's talent at writing them. Romance is about the character relationships and it remains one of the most popular book genres there is, despite all the judgemental commentary from people who've never read it, because properly portraying that kind of interaction between two people is exceptionally difficult. A well written romance never leaves the reader asking why two people end up together because it manages to show the little cracks in the characters' armor where they begin to let each other in. It displays with certainty how the two characters fit together. And when very few people can just give you a real answer about why they ended up with who they did, that's talent. Most people don't really know why they fell in love with who they love, they just know that they love that person. When you can't explain it yourself how can you possibly not be awed when another person demonstrates that emotion and it's beginning so well that you never doubt the happily ever after? Albright has demonstrated a true talent for really personifying love in the story and I'd definitely recommend it.

Jami Albright kept surprising me with this book. Jack and Luanne end up on a road trip together, both for their own reasons. I wasn't expecting Jack's reasons for taking the journey and really wouldn't have anticipated the hilarious situations they find themselves in along the way.
Jack and Luanne have been enemies since they first met but their attraction and chemistry has been there too. Their relationship is such a rollercoaster, it yoyo's from banter that can be quite barbed to tender and heartfelt moments. Both of them put on a facade to protect themselves but it's wonderful to watch them lower their guard and realise that love and trust can make you stronger.
I love Jack's family and their unconditional love and understanding of both Jack and Luanne.

Way cuter than the first. Funnier and sweeter, too
