A must read!!!
I am so lucky to found this in kindle!

I dive into this without reading the synopsis and that made the experience so wild.

This book was... all over the place. Indie Author's first book so was rolling solo and without a team, taking that into consideration.

We start off with a confused and amnesiac h, Violet, and just like her... I remained just as confused until the very last page and reallllllly need to read Book 2 because OMG FINALLY.

Yet, I was entertained even though it felt like the author was shooting for "Alphahole" and maybe overshot to straight Irrational A-hole instead with both the H's. And the h, Violet, was a wee bit underdeveloped. I know she forgot who the heck she even is but a little more clues into her backstory would have made me like her more. I dunno.

That being said, I was entertained and will move on to Book 2.

Read via KU and bought the Audible, which was great!

  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? It's complicated

Not that dark story that was promised

The beginning of the book is somewhat boring, they first go somewhere by car, then go somewhere by foot. Then they jump through the portals. Then the boring descriptions of dressing and undressing. A lot of describing of clothes. Most of the book goes by jumping from one gloomy building to another. From one dress to another.

Everything that happening in this book is surreal and absolutely absurd.

The number of times our heroine gets sousing is ridiculous. She is always wet and not just in sexual way.

So what do we know about our sunshine hero? That he isn't really sunshine. He is always angry and constantly growls, he knows how to purr. He's obviously rich. He has an irresistible sexual desire for heroine. He has a hobby. No. What does he do in life. Unknown. He just a hot sad boyo that need love and hugs.

But does he deserve it. I don't think so. He sees our heroine as ruined and wants to fix her. Make her whole again.

What do we know about our heroine? She's kind stupid soul with darkness inside.

I don't understand the connection between the main characters. Their so-called indestructible bond sometimes arises, then is again lost when it is convenient for the plot. And their first intimacy comes out from nowhere.

The only thing that attracts and holds attention (barely) in this book is the mystery. The heroine's past, the personality of the Dark One, what story connects them. Sexual tension is non-existent and intimate scenes are not hot, with a hint of romance. The characters do not evoke any sympathy. Well, maybe just G. He was exaggerated, but at least with a spirit.

And then they flew on a jet and I was like, "Huh, I didn't know this was the modern world."

When you complete the book, you will not have the feeling of "hmm, I did not expect such a turn", all that awaits you is "I knew it, meh!" Everything is pretty predictable. (At least in the first book.)

Very intriguing! Easy to blow through this one, I enjoy being as lost as the main character throughout the story. And that twist at the end??? Spectacular! Unexpected!!

I honestly don't know how I feel about this book. It wasn't bad. In fact, there were several times that I had a hard time putting it down. The pacing was probably the weirdest part for me. The events that didn't seem important were drawn out and too many details provided. Alternatively, the big events were barely described and happened so quickly I found myself needing to go back and re-read because I was so lost. I didn't care for the whole club scene and Lilly. It threw off the momentum of the book for me so I'm hoping it was never to future books to introduce them as the author did. I really liked Gideon and even Elijah. But it was obvious the author was going to "pull a ACOTAR" and so I knew not to get connected to him. Sidenote, if you want the reader to be truly surprised then don't actually give us a warning in the book description that we should expect the unexpected. And my final complaint is with whatever editor failed school because this book was filled with so many fanatical errors it was hard to focus on the actual story at times.

Interesting series

I like this series and definitely continuing. There's a lot of questions left unanswered but this series is complete as I write this review, so I don't mind. Some of the characters are still somewhat of a mystery to me. There was a lot going on that had me finishing it quickly , but there is something holding me back from making it 5 stars for me. Maybe that will change as I continue.

I couldn’t put it down… I wasn’t prepared for the end and had to jump right into book 2 Touch.
