This was different...very.
It was exciting, but I did lose interest about halfway through, as it got a bit slow.
Still, the book was VERY original, quirky and gripping (mostly). So give it a read, it is pretty good. :)

So I picked this book up to try and read again after putting it down in high school and I have to say it's not a bad book. Pretty average fantasy novel for kids but it does have some really good world building. I want to know more about the world but I didn't hugely care about most of the characters which is a shame.
Enjoyable enough.

I first read this series when I was much younger, I can’t remember when exactly but the story stuck in my mind since childhood. I came across it again, remembering the testing and the colour systems and the children having to go on a journey to save their city.
It was great to relive this book on Audible. It is obviously written for a younger audience, but that doesn’t distract from the charm of it. The Wind Singer is a great dystopian children’s book. It’s incredibly weird sometimes with the old children and the two warring cities, but still a really enjoyable read.

I love this book so much! I read it as a kid and was carrying it as a gift for my niblings but got stuck at the airport and ended up rereading the whole thing. It follows a group of friends as they challenge an unjust but unexamined system of social hierarchies in their cities, and the world building is great. Can’t wait to reread the rest of the series.

A really good children's/middle grade book that explores the myth that if you just work harder, you'll rise higher in station. Nicholson was tackling the idea of standardized testing here too, and I think he brings up some interesting points through his story. I read this when I was younger, and I really enjoyed the entire trilogy, so I'm excited to re-read them now and see what more I pick up.

Stumbled across this on a used book store hunt for new reads and I was immediately intrigued. This is definitely the sort of read that lasts for a single sitting: the young characters are battling against a world that is a perfect meritocracy on the surface and quite the dictatorship from every other angle. The social structure is the most fascinating part of the novel, and the twisted fate of children sent to special study is particularly delightful. Wish I'd had this book when I was young--makes me think even today.

A cute and exciting book. Really liked it! But I think the author wrote it for a liiittle bit younger people. I am still going to read the two last books, though. The characters are so sweet, and it was a joy to read. Naaw :-)
