This book was so much better than I thought it was going to be. I started with book three, but I'm going to go back now and read the series right. The story was fun, the characters are fun, the dialogue is fun, the mystery is fun. Actually the mystery is still unsolved (because this is book 3 in a series) which is partly why I'm gonna go back and start at book one. I need to know what happens!

Another win by Kerrelyn Sparks, I've discovered you really can't go wrong with this author. This was a beautifully written book, and I've never said that before. This is such a unique world that it can just draw you in and leave you wanting more.

Eight Simple Rules for Dating a Dragon is a dual POV from Gwennore (aka Gwen) and Silas. Gwen has a talent, just like all of her adopted sisters. With one touch she can tack down the cause of an illness and heal it. Oh, and she also found out that she can hear dragons and trees AND speak back to them.

Any book with shape shifting dragon hotties can count me in to read it. Before I dive into this review, I didn't even know that this book was in a series. Nor did I know that it was the third book. That being said, I think you could totally read this as a standalone and not be confused at all. Plus, this book definitely makes me want to dive into the first two.

I loved Gwen's character because she just seemed so relatable, likable, sassy, and smart. I didn't like how everyone looked down on her or talked crap about her. I get it, she's an elf but she didn't do anything to these people. Hot damn! I just wanted to reach into this book and slap people.

I also really liked Silas/Puff. It threw me for a loop about the whole Puff thing because I didn't know if that was him or not but then I finally figure it out WAY before Gwen did. I just loved him as a guy and how he wanted to protect her so quickly and effortlessly because she was in danger. I loved their chemistry, their banters, and everything else about them. Heck, I was shipping them since day one.

Besides the romance, there's a pretty good mystery going on. You want to know who is poisoning everyone in this country. Why is the Queen mad? Why is the King mad? Then there's a good villain who has yet to be caught. Secrets are found out that make friendships and relationships stronger. Then there's a happy ending - I mean, who doesn't love those?

Eight Simple Rules for Dating a Dragon was a super quick read for me. I think I read it in like an hour? It was late at night and my migraine wasn't letting me sleep so I just pulled out my phone and read it on my kindle app. I loved every second of it. Heck, I devoured this book.

I can't wait for the next book because I'm so excited to see where Gwen comes from!

I loved this book. You can read my full review on my WordPress blog, Flora's Musings...

So, what did I like about it?
[a:Kerrelyn Sparks|2357|Kerrelyn Sparks|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1202439212p2/2357.jpg] is a new-to-me author; I found her writing style easy read, her plot gripping and her characters engaging. I haven't read the previous books in The Embraced series but the synopsis looked interesting and although I haven't read a story based in a paranormal fantasy world for a while, preferring books set now in our world, Ms Sparks descriptive prowess catapulted me into the world of Aerthlan with ease.

[b:Eight Simple Rules for Dating a Dragon|34962717|Eight Simple Rules for Dating a Dragon (The Embraced, #3)|Kerrelyn Sparks|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1497101112s/34962717.jpg|56237668] is a paranormal romance and I really enjoyed the romance in this book. I loved the sparks and banter between Silas (General Gorgeous) and Gwennore. It is a testament to how involved emotionally I was with this tale and the characters that I found a lump in my throat and a tear trickling down my cheek at times.

Ok, so those of you that have read my reviews before, will know that I enjoy a story more if the lead female character is intelligent, resilient and has a good sense of humour - I wasn’t disappointed here. Gwennore is smart, witty and has plenty of gumption, she has a strong moral code and a loyalty that makes her put the needs of others before her own.

I enjoyed the character development around Gwennore and her new friends, loving that a couple were fabulous right from the start whiles others grew to become so. I love it when the supporting characters end up holding as special a place in my heart as the main characters. I also love a villain you can hate and rally against, I wasn’t disappointed here.

I loved all the twists and turns Ms Sparks weaved into her tale, she kept me on my toes and the little grey cells working overtime trying to work out the clues and guess what would happen next.

I know that this book had me hooked because it had me shedding tears, got my blood boiling with anger but also had me chuckling out loud, sent tingles of titillation to all the right spots *blush* and warmed my old romantic heart.

So, ummm, was there anything I disliked about it?
I gave this book 5 stars because there weren’t any niggles that diminished my enjoyment, there’s no life or death cliffhanger - you know how I hate those - and although it's the third book in The Embraced series I didn't feel lost or confused.

So, basically what I’m saying is...
I loved this book. It has everything that I look for in a 5 star book; adventure, a bit of mystery, some action, great characters, some humour, banter, romance and passion.

If you love well written tales of magic, curses and mystery as a backdrop to an entertaining romance I think you’d enjoy this book, I think it’s a perfect mix of paranormal, mystery and adventure, however, I would just like to add that due to the explicit sexual nature of some of the scenes within these pages, I’d only recommend this book to adults who are not offended with this type of content.

I want you to know that I was lucky enough to be given a digital version of this book for free from the publisher (St Martin’s Press) after making a request via Netgally.com in exchange for an honest review. The expected publication date is 27th March 2018.

This was exactly what I expected: frivolous but fun. That’s what I wanted and that’s what got.

I could not put it down! I got this book as a review copy from NetGalley, and I could not have been happier. Kerrelyn Sparks is my favorite paranormal romance author, so I was so excited to get the chance. The third book in the series, this book is even better than the previous two (and I LOVED the second one so much). I didn't think it could be done, but she did it. Kerrelyn Sparks is great at taking you to a whole new world of her creation and making you feel like the characters are real. I can't wait to read more.

This book was an absolute delight!

It seems like lately I’ve been reading books where the guy is a jerk to the heroine, she is feisty but eventually gives in no matter how crappy the guy previously treated her. There’s usually some type of mating bond, since it’s a fantasy or PNR, and it explains away his jerky alpha male behavior. If you want to read a book like that, this one is not for you. Silas knows what he wants, he goes after it, and he’s not a jerk to Gwen. He’s actually nice to her and doesn’t care that she’s an elf, an enemy of his people. He’s funny and teases her, and gives her an actual reason to like him.

I loved Gwen. She’s not strong in the sense of swords and steel, but when someone she loves is in dangers, she literally jumps on a dragon for them. Her power is healing, and I love a great healer story. Also, Gwen has a lot of angst potential. She was given away, raised by nuns, the society around her is distrustful of her kind and rude to her at best. Instead of focusing on the negative, she is grateful for her sisters and keeps the friends she has very close. She has no hopes for children or a family of her own, but instead of being sad, she focuses on being a great aunt to her sister’s children.

When her beloved niece is kidnapped by a dragon, she jumps on and catches a ride so her niece won’t be alone. She is taken to another kingdom, with a mad queen who is kidnapping children and claiming them as her own. Gwen is convinced by Silas to stay and use her healing powers to figure out what is going on. So there’s an actual plot, not just the main couple meeting. And it made me laugh. Any book that makes me laugh is a win!

The world building was great. It’s set in another world, with different kingdoms and gifts. This is the third book in the series. I had not read the other two books but it didn’t stop me from understanding this one. I plan on reading the other two books.

I’d recommend this if you like fantasy romance, shifter stories, or want a good laugh.

Thanks Netgalley and the publisher St Martin’s Press for an arc of this book.

I was so excited to read Eight Simple Rules for Dating a Dragon because I absolutely love dragon shifter stories and I couldn’t wait to see how Ms. Sparks would write hers. She definitely did not let me down and it’s safe to say that this is my favorite in the series so far and while that might change with the next book, Eight Simple Rules for Dating a Dragon will without a doubt be one of my top favorites in The Embraced series. It was positively amazing and I wholeheartedly loved it!

I didn’t love Gwennore as much as her sisters before her, but I really did love her. She’s not easy on herself or on Silas and I wasn’t happy with those little doubts she had because Gwennore is a wonderful person worthy of so much. It takes her awhile and it might frustrate you a little, but please stick with her because she is worth it. Gwennore is kind and brave and she has a pure heart.

It wasn’t at all hard to love Silas. He’s sweet and can be so soft and romantic at times. He’s utterly devoted to Gwennore and he never gives up on her. He’s determined and funny and fun. Silas is just silly and playful and was impossible not to fall in love. Silas completely stole my heart and I know he will win you over too.

There are eight simple rules you need to know for when you read this book.
Rule number one: you will get frustrated, so remember to have patience and it’s perfectly alright if you have to mentally punch someone (Gwennore haters) in the face.
Rule number two: this book will make you laugh and smile a lot, so don’t drink or eat while reading and be sure to let out those laughs because holding them in will send them straight to your hips (I read that on a meme once).
Rule number three: the road to this happily-ever-after is a bumpy ride, so be prepared for turbulence and hold on tight.
Rule number four: Silas and Gwennore’s tale is full of thrills and danger and banter, so expect your heart to pound and race.
Rule number five: when it comes time to read this book, try to do it at time when you’re least likely to have distractions demanding your time because once you start this, you aren’t going to want to stop.
Rule number six: if you love curses, dragons, and mystery, then you will no doubt love this book.
Rule number seven: this tale is bursting with so much love and sweet moments that will make you sigh and cause your heart to melt like butter but not literally.
And finally for rule number eight, keep an open mind and heart because the journey with its heartache, doubts, humor, and light is all worth it to arrive at the destination at the end.

Well, it wasn’t easy coming up with those eight simple rules for reading Eight Simple Rules for Dating a Dragon, but it had to be done. And now all you need to know is that you can read it as a standalone, it’s told from Silas and Gwennore’s POV, and they do get their happily-ever-after.
