Such a heartbreaking and wretching story surrounding motherhood and the daily struggles and consequences of those, set in a 5 minute future dystopian.
Not being a parent myself, I could only imagine how reading this with having your own child, covers the swings and roundabouts and everyday mission that is 'successful' parenting and really brings about the poignant point that there really is no real 'correct' way to parent, even with AI and sci fiction taking a stab at it.
Some points the novel covered that I found really interesting were: how mothers are seemingly 'punished' for having 'a bad day', how once you're a mother this is now your entire existence and purpose and the difference society places on mother's and father's roles and how that's shown between the two different schools for bad parents.

Bonkers. The first half filled me with so much tension, I almost stopped reading because it was too real.

Haunting, can’t stop thinking about it, eerily relevant now more than ever. Wish I could be friends with Frida.

This book is a great commentary on the flaws of the child welfare system, the societal pressures that mothers face, and double standards between mothers and fathers. It left me feeling frustrated, angry, and sad, which was definitely the point of the book. I deducted half a star just because I felt like it took me a little bit to get into the book, but once I was in it I loved it
One of the most intense books I've read. I've been contemplating reading this all year, but as a new mom, I wasn't ready until now.
This book captures how impossible it can feel to be a good mother. The intrusive thoughts, the constant pressures from yourself and society, the way there will always be more to do for your child. At times the plot lagged and the conclusion felt like an easy way out, but overall, well worth reading, especially if like me you prefer your dystopian fiction to be rooted in complex characters.

Such a downer. No hope, everything seemed hell bent against Frida and I just don't need more stress.
I can’t even give this a rating. How do you rate a book that truly is good and well-written, but incredibly depressing and heartbreaking?
