This is a really fun read. Trixie and Bear could not be more polar opposites. Yet, as the saying goes..."Opposites attract". I thoroughly enjoyed Trixie rescuing Chick-Chick. I used to have chickens when i was younger. My sister and I would bring them in the house and watch chicken cartoons with them and play on our swing set with them. Rocking them to sleep.

While Bear felt an instant attraction towards Trixie, I myself took a bit longer to feel this same chemistry between these two. It was more of a slow burn. Yet, when these two did start giving in to one another is when the temperature rose, and the cheeky humor came out. So, I ask why the chicken crossed the road...to pick up a copy of to Get to the Other Side by Kelly Ohlert!

When Trixie rescues a chicken trying to cross the road, it puts her in a bind. Her apartment building doesn't allow pets, and the animal shelter where she works only accepts cats and dogs. The logical choice (obviously) is for Trixie to find a new home. When she signs the lease, housemate and homeowner Bear doesn't realize she's got a chicken. After all, he never asked, and she wisely didn't volunteer the information. But Trixie is so adorable, he really can't resist. Will cohabiting and co-parenting an ailing chicken lead to love?

This is adorable. It's heartwarming and emotional and has more depth than you might expect. I enjoyed the audio narration. If you like whimsical, opposites attract rom coms with quirky characters and adorable pets, you won't want to miss this one.

Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.

I'm really sorry, but I dnfed this book. I really did not enjoy this.

The characters seemed flat to me, and the premise was weird. The writing was likewise flat and dull.

Thank you Netgalley and Alcove Press for providing me with an ARC for an honest review.

honestly… it was alright. i kinda had to force myself through the end of the book because trixie was driving me crazy. but bear was a cute character and the ending was cute. but also the idea of the chicken as a pet was very silly and kinda just annoying

A sweet, slightly kooky dual POV, roommate romance between two strangers living in Chicago. Thanks to his meddling sisters Bear's extra room gets posted and Trixie jumps at the chance, needing a pet-friendly place to stay after rescuing a sick chicken.

There's some cute banter as these two try to keep things platonic and fail and Trixie struggles with her mental health which I found well done and relatable. I did think she got a tad too attached and overly invested in 'Chick Chick' the chicken and pushed Bear away unnecessarily just for the sake of third act break up drama.

Overall I liked but didn't love this one and would recommend for fans of books like The flatshare or The temporary roomie by Sarah Adams. Much thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley and Alcove Press for providing a digital copy of the book for me to read in exchange for my honest opinion.

Synopsis: Trixie scooped up a chicken struggling to cross the road, and drove off, she knows that she has to find a new home for herself and her new feathered friend. Bear’s meddlesome sisters post an ad to rent the spare room in his simple home, without asking his permission. Still, when Trixie responds to the ad, he agrees to let her move in, despite immediate worries about keeping things platonic. Determined to keep her new room, befriend Bear, and give her rescue chicken the care she deserves, Trixie fights to keep her walls up and resist her romantic feelings for Bear. They have to figure out how to save a family business, pay for mounting vet bills, and navigate their own emotional baggage if they want to find the love that they all deserve.

My Thoughts: The narrators were Trixie and Bear, from their perspective. The spicy level was low, which I was okay with as it worked for this book. The characters were well developed, witty, engaging, and grew through the book. Trixie came off as likable and relatable and a little annoying at the same time. I appreciate the roommates to lovers trope. The author’s writing was humerous, emotional, sweet, beautiful, and intriguing. This book triggered laughter, happiness, the “awe that is cute” moments, and was a good read for me. I know that this is a debut YA Romance novel for the author, so I would definitely read more books from this author.

Thank you NetGalley and Alcove Press for the advanced readers copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Trixie and Bear wind up being roommates after a chicken retrieval in downtown chicago and a coincidental classified ad. There love for Chick-Chick and each other grows.

This book had me laughing, reminiscing, angry and tearing up. I appreciated the mentions of scenes from the Office, Super Mario Bros, Buddy the elf and Jurassic world. I was laughing out loud to so many of Trixies mannerisms and thoughts. And phew, Bear was portrayed like a very sexy Luke from Gilmore Girls with a beard.

I really liked that the backgrounds of each character and how the past trauma shaped their lives. (Although I think Both should see a therapist still). I hate how books make family’s out to be picturesque but both Bear and Trixie’s family’s have issues.

The only reason it’s not a 5 is because I wish there was more detail in the romance scenes. Haha
