Fantastic book.
Sadly like most books I read, I saw the Vampire Knight tv show first. Honestly, it was Vampire Knight that made me LOVE Anime. 2 weeks ago, HATED ANIME. Saw the show, NOW I'M OBSESSED! Like all tv shows, I get sad and mad that if ends, and I do research. Found out the show was based off of this Magna/Graphic Novel. I found out the tv show didn't do episodes off of all the books, and that the ending in the show wasn't the actual ending and that I would have to read the books to know the real ending. Even if they did the episodes for every book, I still would've read these Magna's. This only made me want to read them more.

Got the books yesterday at the library, and Vampire knight #1 was my 2nd Magna I've read. I currently finished my first Magna earlier that day. So I got used to reading backwards and left to right.

Even if I didn't see the tv show, as a reader, the author did an excellent job explaining the world and story if Cross Academy, and the world of Vampires and Humans co existing here. The book was an excellent read. The Character's personality, looks, and the setting was very well told. I live how he constantly has Yuki explaining things to the audience.

NO SPOILERS! But there Defiantly is a cliff hanger, and this book will have u leaning off your chair at the end of every chapter. I know some Anime has bad stuff, and unless u count blood bad, I say this is Defiantly appropriate for young readers, as young as 8.

I will have to say I'm used to reading books that have many differences than the tv show based off the books, and I was very surprised and happy to know that the tv showed actually followed the Magna books! Like, that was really surprising! The book has wonderful art, and highly recommend reading. Also Highly recommend watching the tv show after the books. Their both amazing and bring the World of Vampire Knight out in amazing ways.

5 Stars Highly recommended for 8+ LOVE this book, and am exited to read the others in the series (I am currently reading book 3 as I wrote this review.) and hope you will also pick up this book, even if your not fond of Anime, cause this story made me Love Anime!

Read this today while I was waiting for the little one I was babysitting to go down for her nap. Her teenage big sister had this sitting on her shelf, and the last time I was babysitting I ended up picking the 5-star read [b:Harleen|52713814|Harleen|Stjepan Šejić|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1575333390l/52713814._SX50_SY75_.jpg|75110857] from her bookshelf, so I decided to try another new-to-me book today. Unfortunately this was SUPER boring and I can't believe so many of my friends were into this in high school (sorry, Claire!) because I just straight up didn't like it. All the faces are drawn exactly the same. The tension is so weak it might as well be nonexistent. There's so little here and the protagonist doesn't carry an ounce of it anyway. It was enough that I read through it while listening to the Cries of Baby Eve's People (she is two...maybe she was trying to tell me this book would be bad & I should come spare her from naptime instead?) but not worth more time than that. 2 stars.

Vampire Knight and I have an odd relationship. I first watched the anime back when I believe I was in middleschool or high school which was a round the time when it was being released. I remember the basic premise of the storyline but really the only thing that's stuck with me was the "ending," of the second season (which was weird and wasn't really an ending). However this was the first time I've read the manga. From what I remember this volume is almost exactly like the first few episodes of the anime.

I do think the artstyle is better suited for the manga rather than the anime. Yet there are times when reading when the art just looked a bit meh. Character designs are a bit lacking as well; a handful of the male characters look a like with Zero and Kaname being the exceptions. The story for this volume is good and sets out a nice framework for things to come. The pacing of the story is good as well. Some secrets are revealed early on while still leaving room for other things to come. I will say I wasn't too fond of Yuki as a female protagonist, at least not yet. Perhaps that changes in later volumes.

Overall a good start to the series. Not bad for what it is.
When it comes to the other 18 volumes, I'll probably just rate them & just give a review for the very last one, unless one of the volumes is just mind-blowing (in a positive or negative way).

Pure fun, especially for someone new to graphic novels.
