huuuhhh???
The values in this book are seriously concerning. How could anyone write seriously that french people like suicidal people more than other people do? Also, I have a problem with the gender roles but I guess that's not surprise when it's a ya novel written at least 10 years ago-

The story is.. not completely logical to me. They're in a locked unit but they aren't monitored the whole time? In the locked unit you are because you are actively a danger to yourself and/or others but he can just go around fucking his inmates? Doesn't make sense. Neither does the cat poop thing. He despises the sessions and says there's nothing to tell. Then it gets offtrack with the whole sexuality thing. And suddenly, without anything else, he works with him? Also, he says he's okay, fine and normal and out of nowhere he talks about "yeah I'm feeling fine for the first time in weeks"

The whole gay thing also came out of nowhere. First of all what the f** happened with Rankin and why was it not treated more seriously? It also seems unlogically that when they're locked in for supervision (otherwise they'd be allowed to leave) that someone can just commit suicide that easily. And even if, I would have wanted to know how Sadie got to the meds. The things they're allowed to have are limited after all.

In my opinion there's a hell lot wrong with this book and logic doesn't always comply. No really, Jeffs change of mind came out of nowhere for me.

This is clearly something for people that value meaning over drama. I guess I'm not exclusively like that.

The last 60 pages were good, only then I really came into the flow with the writing style, it seemed bland to me otherwise.

Was okay. Not bad, not overly good. But I get why people say it's a masterpiece. Just not for me.

Sympathisches Duo, Beatrice und Florin. Wirklich interessantes Konzept mit den Geocaching Koordinaten.

The amount of mansplaining in this book is immense but it was also written in 1928 so that's... not surprising.

Anyways. I heard somewhere that after writing her 85838483 Poirot stories, Agatha Christie got tired of Poirot herself, claiming he was insufferable and an egocentric creel and I agree after only having read one Poirot book.
He claims to be the best detective and talks about himself as if he were a dang superhero. In one paragraph he tells someone he's such a good detective in the next one he says something about the lines of "I haven't thought about that yet"
karma bro you need some scolding by a strong independent woman immediately

The story was okay. It started out really slow paced and I didn't get anything at the beginning. I expected the recreating part (for which I was excited for) to be longer than like a page but okay...
And also, the crime only happens at about a third into the book. I was just waiting and waiting for it to happen and there kept being conversations I didn't get.

The switching in POVs is way too fast for me, I couldn't follow 100%.

The resolution is good IMO, although the plot twist really did come out of nowhere. So if you're expecting some kind of brilliant thought process.. yeah.. two of the last pages and that's it.

I don't really read books this old normally so I was pretty surprised to see there are like no feelings of any characters told at anytime? Was that normal??? It's missing something for me.

The first half is exceptionally boring to me. Catalina seems bland and Aaron Blackford just a bit too much of a wannabe sexy man. Slow-burn is probably just not really my thing, I guess

The second half is good, even though shit suddenly got down a little too quickly, especially in the end.. the spice was, well, spice, so hot.

The plottwist at the end just didn't seem that convincing to me. Aaron doesn't seem like the type of guy to have a lot of worries in the book and neither does he seem like someone who shoves it away as a coping method.

And really, besides Catalinas workplace romance trauma, there's just nothing about her and I guess I need interesting characters to actually really like the story.
I really struggled to get into this but after page 350 or something it turned better. Was okay.

I had to read this for school.
The story is basically a retelling of the life of Kathy, who went to a boarding school called Hailsham.

The concept of the people who went to Hailsham is interesting. I really expected more from the concept "cloned people who exist to donate organs" but I was let down.

Kathy talks about her experiences in life and about her friends like Ruth and Tommy. And that's it. There doesn't seem to be any objective and I need that in books. Some of the things that happened have absolutely no connection to anything in the plot.

Kathy, Ruth and Tommy are boring characters for me, I couldn't get invested in them and wtf Kathy just stole Tommy from Ruth? Or Tommy cheated on her? I don't know about that. There didn't seem to be ANY conflict with it.

So much things are left in the dark. There's no explanation of what exactly the Hailsham people are and what exactly their fate is. Slowly, the reader gets a few bits and pieces of information but it's never fully explained and I hate that. I feel like this is a sequel to something explaining the whole concept because this really feels like something is missing.

I'm only giving this two stars because the writing was easy to follow and I like the activity in reading in general.

I thought this was going to be a murder mystery novel. It was a murder mystery novel for like 25 pages. All the other book was about Christopher and his icks and habits. Which was kind of interesting, don't get me wrong, it's good to have neurodivergent rep in books.

Still... it was boring. And weird too. Why would you write about how a boy with sensory issues pees and poops...

I liked the mathy stuff because I'm a nerd myself and that it included a lot of facts. But otherwise.. there really wasn't anything to it.

The murder is solved and it's an absolutely unspectacular boring moment. And he didn't even have to do anything.

actual rating ⭐⭐.75/5 , read this only for school.
