DNF at 84%

I should've DNF it way earlier. I just needed to see where this train wreck is going, but I had enough.

The writing is SO ATROCIOUS. Stilted, and lacked so much depth. The story wanted to be so many things, that it ended up being a huge mess.

DO NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL.
dark emotional sad slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: No

I told myself when I was starting this book that I don't have any expectations at all. Yeah... well... I lied. I had some internal expectations, and they were shredded to pieces, got stepped on, and then set on fire.

The writing of this book? Beautiful, lyrical, and had so many great lines. But that's it. It was boring, so boring that I wanted to DNF it so bad but I had faith it may get better. And it did!! around 70% ๐Ÿ™‚ yeah. That's what made it 2 stars.

What really made me dislike this book is I cared more about the side characters ๐Ÿ˜ญ. Sabine was interesting until she wasn't. Charlotte was meh. Alice became interesting towards the end but it wasn't enough. 0.25 star is for the side characters.

That ending was so anticlimactic, I felt nothing except relief that it's over. oh and the plot is nonexistent. It's more character driven but the characters are bland. Very disappointed, it was one of my most anticipated books for this year.

I struggled a bit in the beginning of this book, but after chapter two I just couldn't stop reading. I loved how diverse the cast of characters was, especially having a muslim character that's done so well.

I love R.F. Kuang's writing. colonization, and translation weaved together to show how far one group will go to enrich themselves and leave the rest in flames. It was a little bit repetitive in the middle, but I enjoyed it very much. And thank you queen for that character's death ๐Ÿ™‚โ€โ†•๏ธ.

That ending!! I didn't expect to cry, but I did. It was the perfect ending and I just felt sad it had to end this way.

It was fluffy, cute, and hot.

Fake dating has a special place in my heart. The yearning, and tension, yes please! I loved Jade and Donavon's relationship, they compliment each other so well!

I, surprisingly, loved the third act breakup. It just made sense in the context of the book.

I'm absolutely going to read the next book.

This was such a pleasant surprise!

Terlu, a librarian who broke the law by using magic to make a sentient plant so she could have a friend (so sad honestly) gets punished and get turned to a wooden statue. Suddenly she comes alive, and finds herself in an unfamiliar island surrounded by greenhouses, and only one person living there. Yarrow, a gardener, who needs a sorcerer to help with the failing greenhouses. Together they work to save the greenhouses and the island. But that may not be enough.

I loved this so much more than The Spellshop. The plot was fast paced and well done. I loved Terlu and Yarrow's relationship. They were well rounded characters, who had their own issues and trauma. Their relationship felt so natural.

We get to know more about the background of the world and the magic. The side characters felt more flushed out. Overall a really great cozy fantasy and the narrator added more life to it.

I recommend this if you want a cute and quick read.

Thank you to Macmillan Audio for an ALC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

I had a great time reading this!

Julia Song is undateable. According to the douchbags she previously dated. So when she gets guilt tripped by her grandma to go to three setups, she fears for the family name and her reputation and decides to ask Tae Kim, who does everything for the Korean Community in Irvine, to help her be dateable. While they go on their practice dates, Julia starts to question if The One may have always been right in front of her.

I loved Julia and Tae so much! Julia's struggle to meet her family's expectations, and the pressure of keeping a successful business and Tae's struggle with what he wants to do with his life, and feeling lost was so relatable and done very well.

As much As I love romance, I also love friendships and Julia's friends are the best! They did everything for Julia and were there for her every time she needed it.

Tae Kim reminded me so much of Hong Dusik from Hometown cha-cha-cha. Which btw is one of my favorite Kdramas ever. He compliments Julia so well, their chemistry is off the charts! It got me giggling and kicking my feet!

I literally screamed when I read that text from the epilogue. I LOVE THEM SO MUCH.

Highly recommend this if you love childhood friends to lovers, kinda fake dating, and he falls first and hard!

Thank you to the publisher, netgalley, and the author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

I wanted a wholesome and cozy story, and I got that, but something was missing.

I loved the setting of this novella. It was so atmospheric. I did enjoy this world where humans became better and started caring for the planet they're living in.

There isn't much of a plot, it's just Dex and Mosscap walking and talking. I expected more from Dex and Mosscap's relationship, more depth. The conversations they had felt like it was just surface level stuff, and not things that stop you on your track and make you contemplate about what's being said.

It was a fluffy, and easy read. I'll probably read the second one when I'm in the mood for a palate cleanser.

This is only my second cozy fantasy book, and I feel like I still need to adjust to the fact that it's low stakes lol.

I loved the island vibes, and the different types of people. I am a huge fan of Caz and Meep. I enjoyed the pacing of the plot, and liked the turn it took. The narrator of the audiobook was amazing and made this book more enjoyable.

The thing that I didn't like was how underdeveloped the characters were. We get a vague idea about their past, but nothing to make them stand out unless it is to further the plot, and it's kinda dumped unceremoniously in the middle of it.

I do have an ALC of the second book and I'm more excited about it than this one. This was an okay book.

I expected nothing less from Fonda Lee.

This novella gave more depth into an already expansive world. I loved how we got the perspective of normal citizens of Janloon and got a closer look into The Haiedo shield clan.

And Lan and Hilo making an appearance ๐Ÿฅน

I did not expect to be called out in this book.

It was a cute and fluffy Rivals to Lovers romance until we were hit with a truck load of โ€”very close to homeโ€” trauma. And I enjoyed every minute of it! I even teared up a little.

I love Sage and Noah so much!! Their relationship and rivalry was so cute and wholesome. I was giggling and kicking my feet. Sapphic romance books are coming through for me!!!

The found family element is always a win for me, and it's no different in this one. Tyson, Seline, and Harry are just amazing!! Ohh and not to forget about Harry's little sister too. I loved seeing their team dynamics and how much love they have for each other.
