happy trans day of visibility everyone! on days such as this, it’s important to remember how valuable the trans experience is to those who live it. two of my siblings are non binary themselves, and just seeing how happy they are as they’re figuring themselves out makes me overjoyed. people deserve to love themselves and to be loved no matter how they present themselves or who they identify as.

an absolutely horrific exploration into female rage and ostracism in 1900s rural society, encompassing spirituality and witchcraft alongside it. i will say that this was absolutely not what i was expecting but i did like the outcome. my qualms with the book are that, i do wish the book’s ending was a little better, and the pacing could have used some work. however, i thoroughly enjoyed ada bird’s story.

Are Prisons Obsolete? by Angela Y. Davis

for a book that was written over 20 years ago, it perfectly encapsulates the problems with the prison industrial complex, and other mental health institutions that align themselves with the justice system. although i wish the book could have gone into more detail into what we can do as a people to truly change and/or abolish this system and the way it effects our society. i  believe this book needs to be read by everyone.

this book is very important and it was a very informative read, but i had a few personal nitpicks like the over focus on “femmes” specifically. to really culminate into disability justice, it’s important to understand all perspectives, and the author real brings their personal identity into a novel where it didnt really need to be the primary focus. i may reread this in the future, i may not. but i do highly recommend anyone read this book. it needs to be read. especially by non disabled allies.

this was just a really cute story, and i’m glad that young queer people have tales like these to experience. if i had something like this as a kid, i probably would have realized my queerness much earlier.
my nitpicks i guess are the romance being a little weak, and the conflict itself could have been better. but otherwise the art style is adorable and i loved
when morgan’s grandmother revealed himself to be a selkie :)

the relationship between jean and muirin is so freeing to read, and as someone from nova scotia, it is so refreshing to read queer literature from my province. i absolutely loved this story and how it took events from real history and incorporated it into this retelling of a norwegian folktale. muirin is so lovable as a love interest, and jean is strong and unashamed in herself. i would genuinely love to see this book be adapted one day. what a joy.

i really do love virginia woolf, i do, but i found myself so bored with this read. there was just too much going on all at once, with all the other characters being described doing something else at the same time as a conversation. it was way too mind boggling. however, it is a classic, so the three stars remains.
