I split this book into 50% read in February and my first book in March so I got to count this book for 2 readathons! In March I am participating in Realmathon hosted by CoverswithCassidy!

I was able to get this audiobook on Libby and the E-book on KU and I was able to skip the line on Libby which meant I had a week to read this chunky book. But I made it in the nick of time last night by staying up until Midnight to finish this one!

I wasn't sure if this book was going to work for me because I ended up DNF'ing this authors pervious Lady of Darkness series by the 3rd book. But I really wanted to give this series a chance because so many people are talking and raving about this series on BookTube and I wanted to give this one a chance and see what all the hype is about!

YouTube did not lead me astray with this one! I ended up really enjoying my time reading this and even stayed up past midnight to finish! This book is not a fluffy fantasy romance it is rather dark with a very unique premise.

I'm not sure I'm going to do a good job explaining this premise so please see the synopsis for more explanation.

Theon is a Legacy who gets to choose a Fea to be his source durning a selection at the opening scene of this book. He chooses Tessalyn (Tessa) after a strange encounter before the ceremony. We learn that Theon and his team had been doing research on different source candidates before the selection. They had it narrowed down to 5 options but after their encounter Theon was drawn to Tessa.

Tessa is a Fea with a darker past. She does not want to be a source even tho it is installed in Fea from a young age that it is an honor to be chosen by a Legacy. Tessa does not understand why Theon chose her and she is very resistant to the bond they are trying to create. She is the opposite of what a obedient source is supposed to be and she fights the process as much as she can.

Tessa and Theon are like oil and water. Theon really does try to make Tessa as comfortable as possible throughout the process of becoming his source. But Tessa fights tooth and nail and really makes the process extremely difficult for both of them. This book is on the darker side and there is a lot the reader doesn't know going on behind the scenes that we get glimpses of as the story goes.
Both Theon and Tessa have their secrets and I think more is going to be explored in future books in the series.

There is so much that happens in such a short period of time and if I went over everything we would be here all day. If your looking for a really unique set up thats a little bit dark then this series may be for you! I highly recommend at least giving this first book a chance!

I was able to fit this book for a prompt for Get A Clue Readathon hosted by Rainy Blue Reads!

In all honesty If I had read this book a year ago when I first started my fantasy romance journey I don't think this book would have worked for me. It has taken me a while to find my "inner goddess" when it comes to these fantasy romance series but I am so glad I am getting more comfortable reading smutty books because I am honestly having a great time exploring this genre and learning what series are for me and what just doesn't work or gives me the ick...

I feel like I have given out a ton of 5 stars this month and maybe I'm being too generous with my ratings but I'm honestly rating based on vibes mostly!

This book took me about a day to get back into...I re-read the first 20% because it had been a long time since my first attempt with this series. Once I got to new content within this world I was much more intrigued and really enjoyed this one in the end.

I liked this one because it is different than what I have been reading this month...this one wasn't as action packed as some of the other books I've read but I liked the court, lady's maid and
spy aspect of this one. It kept me engaged and entertained. There are a lot of secrets within this world and I didn't know who was going to turn on who!

This is also one of the more spicy books I've read this year and my goodness some of these scenes where intense.

I really like Bastian the Main Male Character. He was very protective and knows how to put the FMC needs before his own both in and out of the bedroom. He has the whole "touch her and die' approach down to a science...while also teaching Kat how she should be treated by a male both personally and physically.

Kat has some trauma from being controlled by some of the males in her family. Her uncle and her deadbeat husband definitely gave me the ick from the start...no one deserves to be controlled and manipulated by people who are supposed to protect and care for them. Her past with them definitely sets the tone for events that take place throughout this book.

Bastian shows Kat what its like to be cared for and he is in the running for book boyfriend of 2025. I am definitely interested in continuing this series espically since this book ended on such a cliffhanger!

I have always enjoyed Tahereh Mafi's writing style (I also enjoyed the shatter me series by her) but this series is so unique! The writing style is whimsical and beautiful and just honestly sucks me right with each book in this series. I binged all the books that are out in this series in a few weeks and I honestly had the best time with these books!

This series is extremely unique and I have honestly missed how fun a YA love triangle can be.
This is not your typical love triangle as both male love interests are toxic in their own way. Alizeh has a choice to make regarding the future of her people. As the lost heir to the Jinn it is her responsibility to find a kingdom to rule for her people.

With 2 princes of different kingdoms trying to convince Alizeh to marry them. Choices have to be made and dark magic is involved. There is a lot riding on these decisions and there is no way of knowing the consequences until it may be too late...

I cannot wait for the next installment in this series and I may be purchasing these first few books soon!

I was able to fit this book into a prompt for Get a Clue Readathon hosted by Rainy Blue Reads!

I am honestly surprised by how much I LOVED this book! The blood and Steel series was a bit all over the place for me with ratings BUT for whatever reason this book worked for me and I loved it!

I didn't know much about this book other than the fact that this book is from Wren's perspective.
I definitely did not expect the quiet healer from the Blood and Steel series to be the poisoner at the set up of this book. She was guarded and standoffish and dealt with her trauma from the previous war in an unexpected way. She put her own spin on revenge in an evil approach of using her talent to kill the people who wronged her friends and family. She somehow made these poisonings seem like accidents except from the people who love her most.

It took years before she was accepted into the Alchemy School of her dreams. Her trusted mentor denied her request of a recommendation for years. Then Wren was called back to her home with the news that she got into the Academy on one condition she would be accompanied by a body guard the one and only Torj Elderbrock...

Tori and Wren have a long history from the pervious series and an undeniable connection. Helen Scheueuer knows how to write a leading man in her series and Torj wins this title of Bookboyfriend for me. He will literally do anything for Wren and his actions throughout this book prove that. He puts up with her endless moodiness and ungrateful ways. There is no denying there is a connection between them and I love how much Tori fights for her...This is the slowest of slow burns but I promise you once they finally get together it is so worth it and you will fall in love with them as a couple.

This Alchemy academy is really different and cool but also terrifying and the students constantly have to be on top of their game. They are thrown into crazy life or death situations and have to arrive at life saving conclusions quickly. I really like the side characters in this one too. At first I didn't trust her male teammate (can't remember his name at the moment) But there is a twist at the end that I didn't see coming with this character.

The only thing I had trouble with was I thought the trials were a bit disappointing. The teachers at this academy built up the Gauntlet to be such a big deal and in the end I thought it was kinda lacking...don't get me wrong I think 6 hours of torture is terrible...and hallucinating your deceased friends and family has got to be traumatic...but I think for me I was expecting a lot more...

But for me this romance worked for me 5 stars all the stars...I love Torj...their bond is undeniable! And this ending was gut-wrenching and destroyed me in the best way... cannot wait for book 2 in July!!

I am a believer of "right book right time" I have tried to read this book 2 times before and this is definitely the case of 3rd times the charm. I was able to fit this in for a room prompt for Get A Clue Readathon!

I also read this book during Valentine's Weekend and I absolutely believe that Erik Bloodsinger is a potential bookboyfriend for 2025 I absolutely adore him and his dark ways...

I guess February is going to be the month of darker MMC love interests. Eric Bloodsinger is a Pirate with a dark past. He is very possessive and has touch her and die tendencies. I just loved him!

The 2 main characters have a past and they were destined to be together from a young age but not in the way you think. They are very much enemies / rivals... or at least Eirk and Livia's father are. These are some high stakes because Erik Kidnapped Livia and brought her to his kingdom.

This is an adventure book on the water and I loved it. I think I may be a pirate girlie! Erik is searching for something that he thinks Livia's father has and he is willing to start a war over it. BUT in a crazy plot twist Livia's father does not have the mantal Erik is searching for because she actually broke it when they were kids. We then find out when the mantal broke she became branded and turned into the mantal herself.

Livia trys to keep this information from Erik for as long as she can but she ends up having to tell him. He then becomes extremely possessive of her and calls her his...BUT She also feels a pull to him as well. Erik is intense. He has a dark past BUT Livia sees the positive in him despite his flaws because there are a lot. She honestly brings out the best in him.

The cliffhanger at the end of this book was insane! I need book 2 immediately! There is a lot more that happens in this book but if I sit here and write out everything that happened I will be here all day! If your looking for high stakes adventure with twists and turns this book is for you!

I read this novella as part of Chaos Weekend for Get a Clue Readathon.

Overall I thought this novella was fine. I enjoy Arwen and Laura perspective and I really enjoyed that there were new events took place within this world. I don't think it did all that much for the overall plot for this world...but I don't think that is the point of this novella.

I think Arwen and Laura are trying to prove themselves to their people. They have every right not to trust Laura after everything that happened because of her actions in the first 2 books. She is recovering from an infection in her leg that was so bad she almost died...and people on the island keep trying to kill her.

There is a moment in a meeting where one of the generals tell Laura that in order to protect herself she should produce an Heir and prove to her people that she is true to her people. Laura kinda freaks out about this and Arwen says wherever you go I go. If you don't want kids thats fine we will leave and start a new life its your choice...

Laura doesn't want to leave and she proves herself to her people again...but not in the way you think.

I do plan on continuing this series in the future but I think I am going to spread these books out a lot more so that I hopefully I don't feel like I am reading the same book just from another perspective. I do think these last 2 stories were very much set up books and I think Book 4 is going to be action packed!

I read this book as part of Chaos Weekend for Get A Clue Readathon hosted by Rainy Blue Reads...

I have tried to read this novella physically twice...the first time I tried back in August for Amazing Readathon it did not go well and I ended up soft DNF'ing at like 20 pages in...

Today I had every intension of reading multiple novella's....However this book took me forever to get through like literally the whole day to read 84 pages. I fell asleep twice and I was beyond frustrated with myself because I know it was a me issue and not the book itself...I was also frustrated because we went through the whole journey and never got the answer to what her fate is...This annoyed the absolute crap out of me...

I understand that this is supposed to be a set up book for the first book in the series...but I am left feeling frustrated and like I waisted my whole day because I still don't know what her damn fate is after a very long journey book...

And all of the controversy around this series I just don't know if its worth it in my opinion...

If there is an audiobook for book 1 I may consider picking it up at some point BUT tonight as I am writing this I am just annoyed...

I was able to fit this book as a bonus book for Get a Clue Readathon hosted by Rainy Blue Reads! I got the prompt TBR Vet from the spinner wheel.

I did not know what this book was about going into to this one and it was definitely not the fluffy romance I was expecting. This book was all around on the darker side. This covers topics that can be triggering to reader epically if they are not expecting it going in. I would definitely classify this one as a dark romance.

Alex is a controversial character his past and very dark and it definitely has an effect on his life choices and decisions throughout this story. He is not what I expected a love interest to be like. BUT once I learned what happened to his family I kind of understood his choices and decisions. I do not think they are right by any means...but as a story I did end up enjoying this in the end.

Ava is Alex's best friends little sister. She is off limits...BUT we find out that is not necessarily the case as Alex had a very detailed plan and motive for their relationships with Ava's family  from the start of his friendship with her brother.

Ava also has a dramatic event that she has kind of blocked out and when memories start coming back to her about the event in question Alex helps her through it...Unfortunately it leads to more secrets and lies and puts a strain on their relationship...Thats when Alex's motivations start to be revealed and basically all hell breaks loose...

There are a lot of factors to this story that I think are better off experienced when reading the book...

Just remember this is a Dark Romance friends...these topics are heavy and triggering...the relationship is alot very toxic because of theses events...but I did like the set up for book 2 and hope to continue the series at some point...

I am thankful I was able to continue this series for Get A Clue Readathon hosted by Rainy blue reads. This is my latest "BookTube influenced me" series and I have loved every minute of reading these first 2 books!

I really enjoy Tahereh Mafi's writing style and she has a way of writing potential love interests who are so drastically different the reader can't help liking them both for different reasons. I could have easily read this book in one sitting it is a fast read with high stakes and I was dying to know what was going to happen to each character! I love them all and I don't want anything to happen to anyone...but its unavoidable when reading a Tahereh Mafi series...

I will be going to the library tomorrow to pick up book 3 and I hope I can get my hands on the audiobook and read it this weekend or next week! I am addicted to this series and I need to know what's going to happen next because this cliffhanger was mean!! lol

3.5 stars...

I was able to fit this book into a prompt for Get A Clue Readathon hosted by Rainy Blue Reads on Youtube. I really enjoyed the second book in this series I gave the Traitor Queen 5 stars and read it in one sitting last month....However I am still learning about myself as a reader and this is the second time I have read a book that is a new set a characters with a new perspective of similar events that happened in the previous book and I didn't love it....

I am all for having a new perspective but give me a new story please... I realize this could very well be a me issue and I probably could have enjoyed this book more if I hadn't read these books so close together...

There are aspects to this story that are their own that are important to what happened to these characters but I feel like this was very much a set up book.

I do plan on continuing this series I'm just going to have to spread the books out more especially if the first book in each duology is going to repeat the same events...Its just to similar for me personally...
