I never have much interest in war books, and this writing style would usually bore me how detailed and lengthy its descriptions are, and how slow paced the first part is. Yet I found myself still entranced by every page, ever during Robbie’s point of view which I would normally struggle to get through. Because I watched the film previously, I was excited to dive deeper into the story and now I’ve fallen in love with these characters, whose deep affection and adoration rivals Romeo and Juliet in my opinion.

Every time her dad beat her, I bust out laughing!

This is the single most awful book I’ve ever read in this cursed world, and here are some examples to prove that:
Article 1: “Wearing a bra was a waste of time, considering I didn't have much to conceil and what I did have were perky and stayed up on their own.”
Article 2: “every massaging duel of our tongues, until I was purring in his arms, rocking my body against him impatiently”
Article 3: “My eyes flicked to the danger zone and my mouth ran dry. So that's why people referred to it as pitching a tent. I wasn't sure that statement applied to this particular breed of teenage boy because Johnny wasn't just pitching a tent in those jocks-he was pitching a marquee.”
Article 4: "According to his dad, it was blocking Johnny's sperm cord or some horrific fucking catastrophe like that…Johnny had something called an athletic pubalgia”
I just wanted to include that last bit to emphasize how fucking stupid the idea of his penis’s health being the main plot point of this entire fucking garbage they call a book. Also the main character is the most stuck up pick-me little bitch I’ve ever heard of, all “uwu I only weigh 85 pounds when I’m 16 omg how small and cute I am, so weak and dainty”.

For some reason this was the only book I was able to get through, and I went into it thinking it was only a cute and possibly sad, ghost romance. I had no idea about the themes of religion and while I found it interesting and would normally appreciate that, I just didn’t expect it so it felt jarring. There were a few well-worded quotes that I picked out, and overall I liked the main character and love interest. They weren’t very dimensional, I also thought their relationship seemed very quick and simple, without much depth, but to be fair it is a shorter book. I heard that the love interest was super sweet and likable and had a great compelling personality and traits…and I saw none of that. Liked the ghosts and some aspects but overall was just a quick commitment.

GOD THIS BOOK HAD ME IN SUCH A CHOKEHOLD, I read it in a little more than 24 hours and I’m obsessed. The writing is gorgeous and brings together such vivid pictures in my head, it’s beautiful. I really really liked all the characters, which is so rare for me, like I actually loved all of the main cast! The relationships and little make out sessions and everything was so cute, I was giggling and blushing, and of course I loved learning more about fae folk.

There were times when the antagonist acted like a villain from a 3rd grade chapter book, and times when the abuse was so raw it reminded me of things I didn’t want to think about. I think the characters acted a lot younger than they were supposed to be, and sometimes the writing was simple and even repetitive, but it could also be poetic.

  • Diverse cast of characters? Yes
This book is so descriptive of its gore and body horror, I haven’t read anything like that and it’s definitely sticking with me. The way it describes and depicts religious trauma was horrifying and raw, I feel like I empathize and understand what it means so much more.
