I really enjoy the way this author writes! I first picked up one of her books, The Raven series, many years ago and while I don’t remember a lot of details i remember the love I had for the series. I knew the Mercy Thompson books were out there but I wanted to wrap up a couple series before I dived into a new one and while I am still working through that series I decided to start this.

When I really like an author I don’t tend to read what a book is about before just diving in, so I was happily surprised to discover I’d be reading about Charles and his mate.

There was a definite buildup from the beginning of the book to the end with the FMC, her relationship with her mate, learning about omegas and what it means, and just learning more about a healthier pack life. There was also a progression of her being scared and intimidated but working through that to the point she is the one who ends up rescuing the men.

I’m kind of sad Walter was killed off so quickly. I definitely found myself wanting more time to get to know him. I also feel like the build up to the final battle was unbalanced compared to the ease with which she was ultimately killed. It’s beautiful she was punched in the face and knocked out but it just felt like there should’ve been a little bit of struggle between FMC and the witch before the knockout and death.

I am also picking up on a theme of petty, underhanded, passive-aggressive women in the different series. I don’t mind women being villains or having an antagonistic role in a story but I do find myself feeling frustrated when a pattern starts to emerge of women who fit a more misogynistic take on how women in certain roles behave.

I'm mostly just wondering what took me so long to finally, finally start this series. I absolutely adore Mercy Thompson, and stopped reading those so that I could catch up on Alpha & Omega. Too many years later, I've finally arrived.

I love Charles and Anna's story so far. My only complain is a minor one – the prequel novella should really just be a part of this book. Because I started Cry Wolf BEFORE I read the novella, and spent a few chapters very confused at the abrupt beginning. Then I went back and read the prequel, and it all finally made sense.

It should just be one book. Otherwise, all of the stars. Compelling plot, wonderful characters, and I can't wait to read more.

I think this book should come with a warning that if you hadn't read the first three Mercy Thompson novels you would be super confused. Even this book sort of starts after something big happens that readers don't get to see. I didn't mind that because I'm glad we didn't get to see Anna being tortured, beaten, and raped. But we do see her trying to recover from it, learning to trust again, and holding her own.

Also I'm really interested in Leah's character, who Bran supposedly chosen for being selfish and stupid, and the first we glimpse of her she slutshames a woman for no reason other than she's a mate of her step-son and overall acts like a bitch. But I feel like there might be more to her character, especially considering there has to be more to her for Bran to tolerate her.

I think the world building in this is very deep, but somewhat confusing. It might be because I didn't read the first book in the Mercy series, or because I was listening to it in audiobook and might have missed some finer details.

However, the story was great. Each character is so individual, and the way it all pulls together at the end is amazing. It isn't just Anna and Charles' story, it's about pack too.

Alpha & Omega is an excellent companion series to Patricia Briggs’ Mercy Thompson series! I just finished listening to Cry Wolf, which is the first full length book in the series and it was great! The reader did a fantastic job. This series focuses on Anna as she begins her life in Montana with Charles. Anna is just starting to learn what it means to be an Omega wolf and adjusting to pack life, when a rogue wolf enters the packs territory. Give this series a try and learn all about the Morrok’s pack.

It took me so long to find this series and now I'm completely hooked on Anna and Charles, the audiobook was a great way to meet this couple and I liked the feeling for the author that the novella gave me, so decided to continue with Cry Wolf in audio.

I think the prequel was a great way to start this series and after reading this book and a couple of other reviews, I don't think the story has the same feeling when you get this couple already together without knowing everything Anna has been through.

I liked that Anna is able to work with Charles in those extreme cases like in this book. She's a great woman, and to be able to help others is amazing when you think Charles was almost always needed to destroy other wolves. I liked the way they are trying to make things work, even after all the drama Anna suffered in her previous pack, she's great and Charles being older helped too, because he knows about the trauma and doesn't push things too far.

Will definitely continue this series.

Quick fun fantasy read. Little character development but who really needs that when you have werewolves. Enjoyed it!

Briggs is such a great storyteller-- well developed characters, great plot connections, etc. Always a pleasure!
