So I'm only giving this book 3 stars. But I think I'm going to read it again. I really liked the exercises he presented, the stories just did not resonate with me. Also, I listened to this on audiobook, and I don't know... the narrator was alright but it sounded like the author was an arrogant ass. It might have just been me.

I think there was a lot of good stuff here, especially if you are just beginning to deal with your depression. And I think there are a lot of good exercises for noticing and changing your self talk that I am excited to try out.

Once I go through it again I'm sure I'll raise this rating.

DIY-CTB. Lots of really helpful info and techniques, though methinks it presents itself in a bit of an abrasive/condescending tone, so it's probably best for folks with light to moderate depression.

Im coming back to this book in a time of need and even though its hard for me to follow some of the advices, I’ve found it to be helpful and quite insightful

ugh. just... ugh. (sorry!) tone and style not helpful, and felt very flippant - which was a bizarre feeling given the nature of the subject. got just under halfway through and decided to set the book aside and stop torturing myself. Helpful book for better understanding mental health. I really appreciate that it provides actionable steps to help combat the distorted thinking of a  depressive episode. I also appreciated the very logical and straightforward approach to the subject that he took.

•Depression vs. Sadness : Depression distorts your thoughts and lowers your self-esteem where as Sadness does not distorts your thoughts and does not lower your self-esteem.
