This was actually one of the more interesting and entertaining books of the series. Nancy is still a bit TOO talented - in this book she knows how to sail (despite never having done so previously in other books OR live anywhere near a large body of water), and also knows all of the appropriate sail-related jargon - but the overall story kept me guessing until the reveal at the end. The mystery was definitely a lot more tightly crafted, and I had a great time. Let's hope the next installment is just as fun!

Without a doubt this is the most action-packed ND so far. Danger strikes from the get-go and the story is pretty fast-paced. Of course, we see some recurring plot points—George judo-chops a bad guy, the girls fall out of a boat, Nancy is kidnapped, Bess is fat-shamed, people faint. (Side note, it’s kind of funny to me that fainting is so common that people just happen to carry around smelling salts—looking at you Mrs Thompson.)

In this episode, the girls jet off to a fancy yacht club and Nancy works under an assumed identity. I thought the gig was up when Mr Thompson called Nancy by her real name in the midst of seeking medical attention for one of the villains, but that never came to be the case. I felt like that was a bit of a missed opportunity to add depth to the story. Also, even after Nancy uncovers some shady crap going on at the store, she continues to peddle these wares of questionable authenticity to whoever comes in.... like, huh??!!?

Whoever wrote this one is clearly a fan of sailing because there is loads of technical sailing jargon throughout. Also, Nancy apparently has a pet dog (?!) named Togo who has never been mentioned until now. I guess he has to stay in the basement a lot.

4/3/20 age 9 - The story is about a girl named Nancy, who gets to go to a yacht club but it turns out to be more than just a visit. I loved it! I liked the part when all the criminals got captured. I did not like the part where Nancy got trapped inside a statue.
Words that describe this book: exciting, surprising, entertaining, funny. It was surprising when Nancy found holes indie and outside which when the wind blew through it made whispering sounds.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes mystery.

TOGO ORIGIN STORY!!!!!!

in all seriousness, it was refreshing that nancy finally got called out on her rashness and arrogance, especially when
mr. owen is recuperating and she literally gives him a heart attack bc she just can’t hold back
. i mean obviously it’s resolved in like three pages but still. and the mystery was genuinely interesting! less structured than others, and the sort of dark ending was also unusual in a good way. plus who doesn’t love a book that hinges on a wild untameable sea? couldn’t be me!

And we have our first new author. It is a little different but still very much Nancy drew. Nancy's in disguise for the first time, and we see George using some judo.
Well first time unless it happens in 13 as well. I have that one on hold.

Though a little simplistic (even by Nancy Drew's standards), this book was enjoyable-though the "whispering" component of the story never really clicked for me. As usual, the crooks in the book have a far-reaching scheme, which makes it relatively easy for Nancy to stumble upon clues and solve the case. Though as I read each successive book, I'm a bit more jaded on the characters and story lines, I enjoy each mystery and will keep going until I get through the original collection!

I can see why this book is still popular. I’m interested to see how the other books compare. Are they all more focused on getting caught up in dangerous situations than on the plot? The characters were alright, but I wish the boys weren’t all attractive, there for protection or other forms of “male assistance”, and that they actually had personalities. The mystery was okay, but seemed to be drawn out because Nancy kept getting interrupted by inconvenient situations. Glad to see that the girls are about to do things on there own and am actually surprised at the lack of dating and marriage mentioned considering this serious started in the 1930s.
