This is a vocabulary rich story for the late elementary set. A human child named Madeline is the only character in the book with good sense. Her parents (anti-establishment hippies), Mr. and Mrs. Bunny (detectives of a sort), the Foxes (the bad guys) and the Marmots round out the cast of characters. The whole thing is pretty whacky. There are some funny lines but I wonder if the humor is more meaningful to an adult. It would probably appeal to an off-beat kid with a huge appreciation for words.

So, this book was kind of terrific and super, super weird. It's definitely not for everyone. Reminded me of some of Pinkwater's weirder stuff. There were some hilarious lines, the whole subplot about how stupid marmots are had me rolling. The rabbits assume the girl's parents are dead because they've read a lot of kids books and the parents are ALWAYS dead, just lots of winks and nods at the genre. Why only 3 stars? The story-by that I mean the plot- didn't work that well for me. But it was certainly worth reading. Give this to that weird 3rd grader who reads at a 9th grade level.

This is a book for children so, of course, she can talk to rabbits. But dead beat hippie parents who didn't care and having to work when she was in grade 5 didn't make sense when current day themes were used.
Also I hope this book is translated from Rabbit into English English as the Canadian/American version had included a swear word - for what effect I can not say. If the author is going to use a word that is not in her region's vernacular she should understand what it is she is using.

I read this to see if it would be appropriate for my 12 year old daughter. NOPE.

In the first chapter the words God (as a swear word) and crap are used multiple times. Lots of "pretend" swear words like heck and son of a gun too. Why are those necessary in a book that is aimed at 8-12 year olds???

The hippie parents are terrible to their child and the words used between characters in this book are disrespectful. There are many disrespectful words and actions all throughout the book as well as rude words.

The plot was ok but the actual writing was terrible. It was so confusing and just ridiculously absurd. Maybe that's what the author was going for but if that is the case, this should have been an adult book. I felt that it was a hallucination of weird ideas that was lazily written as a book. I felt like I was reading someone’s hallucination.

I do not recommend you waste your time reading this book.

A silly and entertaining read. I think some of the humor was aimed at adults and perhaps not what kids would "get."

One of my favorites: "Mr. Bunny's conscience was always extremely easy to placate. It was what he liked best about it."

Very cute and funny. Mr and Mrs Bunny are a pair of bumbling rabbit detectives who 'help' a girl rescue her hippy parents who have been kidnapped by evil foxes!

Overall I liked "Mr. and Mrs. Bunny- Detectives." There were some truly funny moments and comedic dialogue. However, after a while the frantic pace and the unrelenting snarky narration got a little bit on my nerves. The ending, especially, felt a bit rushed and forced.
