Pretty great intro to mindfulness. I love how over-explained everything is honestly. He really reinforces how and why you should be awareness(ing). The whole (heavily paraphrased) "your thoughts aren't you, they're just thoughts, they just happen - so be aware of that and realize you don't have to apply emotions/more thoughts to them no matter how disturbing/sad/powerful they are" thing really helped me. I have some crazy OCD rumination, this is a very helpful and positive book.

This audiobook is something that probably should not be listened to while mindlessly doing other things. I typically listen to non-fiction audiobooks while driving and enjoying listening subconsciously, but that means I don’t take any exercises seriously in the text. The second half of this book has meditation exercises that need your full attention. I’ve done the raisin exercise before which made me wonder if I’ve read this book before. The raisin exercise is helpful in realizing the extent that mindfulness can take you, but I also feel like it’s a level too deep for beginners. Though Kabat-Zinn also says it doesn’t matter which meditation you do, do what works for you because all doors lead to the same place - more awareness.

This was just what I was looking for... A simple yet helpful introduction to mindfulness. I liked this author's approach where the first half was an introduction and the second half included some simple meditation exercises. There was also no pressure... ever to get it right, and he acknowledged that the mind wanders, and that this is normal.
