3.25 stars. There were some really lovely and tender moments here but it was outweighed by pages and pages of descriptions of their thoughts/info dumps. And when we found out the "secret", not going to lie that it was a disappointing. I am sure these stories will bring great joy to people, it just won't be me. And I am not exactly sure why.

Highlights:
“No, no, no.” Margot elbowed her way out from behind Viktor. The shifter made to grab her, but one venomous look from those copper-colored eyes put him in his place. Not even an alpha wanted to piss off a gloriana.
And then Margot Goode, the bloody center of his universe, stepped forward.

She has character and spunk:
She wasn’t lying when she told Theodore she could multi-task. Margot was perfectly capable of freaking out and sealing cracked bone at the same time.

And can I say EEWWWWW (green tongue):
In a measured, pleasant voice, he informed her, “That was your one.”
“Excuse me? My one what?”
“Lie.” Theodore blinked slowly, his dark green tongue snaking out to lick away a drop of blood from the corner of his mouth.

Some navigating the relationship:
“Okay,” she finally answered, glancing away. “I need to take a shower first, but if you come back in fifteen minutes maybe we can have another cup of tea.”
“Another shower?” His brain might have short-circuited over the image that presented, if he didn’t so vividly recall her damp hair from breakfast. “Didn’t you already take one?”
Her endearingly shy expression shuttered. “Do you want to spend the evening with me or do you want to criticize my bathing habits, Sovereign?”
Theodore threw up his hands in surrender. “Fine, fine. I’ll wait.”
------------
Margot flattened her palms against his chest as another stab of guilt stole her breath. "Does it bother you that I don’t love you?"
"Yet. You don’t love me yet."
"You’re very sure of yourself." But he had every right to be, didn’t he? Theodore was the sovereign, he was gorgeous, and so far, he’d been right about everything. If his ego was a little inflated, Margot could hardly blame him. That didn’t mean she would let him know that, though.
His snort echoed against the marble. “With the way you’re looking at me? I give it a month, tops.”

This book was pissing me off. First of all, FMC does not make sense. She has 0 survival instincts, it seems. Elves ate witches for breakfast in the past so why on earth would she go to Elven city or whatever that place was. Supposedly she wanted to see how elves live since she is dying anyway but she still tries to make herself safe by warding her room. What does not make sense is that she is actively avoiding danger only when the book does not rely on her putting herself in dangerous situation to be close to MMC. Additionally, she does not stand her ground when it comes to MMC, but with everyone else she is stubborn and assured. There is no consistency. What annoyed me the most was her telling MMC twice to stop touching her and him ignoring her and her being okay with that. He is constantly invading her personal space and testing her boundaries. We are told that he would do anything for her, yet basically intimidated her into staying at his place. What?

Then there is the whole thing with mates. MMC says that FMC is his mate and has tangible proof of it, yet FMC does not think so because something should have clicked within her the moment they met face to face and it didn't happen. She is 25 year old and avoided any physical closure with anyone else because apparently being with her is dangerous. In what way, I don't know, didn't have patience to find out. But what I don't understand is if she is searching for her bonded and she knows that MMC is not him, why does she allow him to be so touchy-feely with her? Why does she not avoid being in his proximity if she knows it affects her so much? What makes him so special?

This book is a mess. The characters are not consistent. We are supposed to believe that FMC is a strong witch, yet in 29% that was never showcased. Not even once. She mostly comes off as an insecure, depressed teenager who can't fend for herself. She's has two months or so to find her mate to NOT DIE yet she decides to research elves?

Oh. My. Glory.
I rarely read books without checking out the synopsis first or hearing about it from others, but all I knew going into this one was the title and series name (which hinted at nothing since I had no idea what the words “consort” and “protectorate” meant). But man, oh man. I would put this one firmly in my Top 3 of 2022.
I was hooked within the first few paragraphs, and instantly fell in love with Margot and her voice. And when the POV switched to Theodore, I was a goner. These two each have such great chemistry and a mutual understanding of the insecurities and challenges they’re facing. I was instantly rooting for them through everything.
Another aspect of this book that really impressed me was the world building, which can often be hit-or-miss. Rather than having the information dumped on us, the world building in this story is weaved into the characters’ thoughts, actions and conversations. I liked having the chance to put the pieces together as I read and see Margot and Theodore’s world come alive one page at a time. If you typically avoid fantasy because the world building is too much, this book would be a great intro into the genre. The setting is surprisingly modern and recognizable, yet filled with fascinating magic and fantastic beings like elves, witches, and shifters.
All in all, Consort’s Glory gave me a new OTP, characters to obsess over (hello, Kaz and Viktor?), and a glimpse into a world that Abigail Kelly has obviously only scratched the surface of. If you love fantasy romances as much as I do, this is a must-read.

This book was phenomenal, I loved every bite of it, the plot, the concept, the divergence between the races, the opposition, the fear of the unknown and how the MMC was so determined to make her understand that she had already found her mate.

Margot is a healing witch but due to how powerful she is, her magic is affecting her way too soon, without any other choice, she decided to follow her instinct and move to San Francisco to find the person who will save her - her fated mate. Little did she know that she first would have to survive a bomb explosion. Theodore is the new Sovereign of the Elves Protectorate, displeased by the fact that his consort almost died, he still jumps on the opportunity to bring her to his Tower, he plans to court her but now that the pull has started, he doesn’t have much time before he cannot resist to it anymore and mate with her.
As they discover more about each other, their lifestyle, their culture, they both feel as they were made for each other and not even Margot’s secret will come between them.
Theodore was such a strong MMC, he has this total devotion for her, he calms her, reassures her, supports her ! He’s definitely a man how we like it, and the obsessive, dominant side of the elves is really hot !!!

I cannot wait to read more about this series, next Viktor and I’m soooo curious about poor Sam, but also Alric.

The strong focus on the romance means that the worldbuilding gradually trailed off and the plot dwindled into total irrelevance. Very readable, but not a favorite.

LOVED TEDDY. Teddy is 5 stars. *chefs kiss*
The writing is great! Just the story was not my cup of tea, didn’t enjoy the premise and i wanted to shake the h for most of the story found her to be unbearably annoying, repetitively annoying.
