Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas

I went into ToD not knowing this was Chaols story and that Aelin, Dorian, etc - they are rarely touched on and do not appear in ToD. I will admit I did not care for the book at all until maybe chapter 45-50 and definitely wanted to skip it to get to KoA but holy hell. Do not skip it. This was wonderfully written, so well thought out and just wow. It is a slow start and we leave Chaol prior to ToD not feeling very great about him. This isn’t just Chaols redemption story, this about a young girl who was saved by our Queen, our Fireheart without even realizing who was saving her - and in turn, took that kindness and saved countless more lives. Who practiced patience and gratitude and brought so many tears to my eyes. I will say as a first time ToG reader I am glad I did not tandem read Empire of Storm and Tower of Dawn but would recommend the tandem on a re-read. I just finished this book and am reeling.

Okay. I hate that I slept on this book for so long. I was swinging my feet like a fool, giggling like mad and when I wasn’t completely enamored by their chemistry I was blushing profusely. This isn’t for the faint of heart, the trigger warning is dry but thoughtful (loved it’s hilarious) Also - theres a hero moment. 12/10

I’d like to start by saying I love self help books. If I can better myself and have a better understanding of my handle on my own trauma, so that I can be a better version of myself for not just me - but my friends, partner, family etc - I will happily check out a book that can benefit me in that way. However. This book was written in a “quirky” way. I’m down for swearing, it’s in the title. I get it. I felt like I was reading a frat guys journal who had just had an epiphany and couldn’t stop talking. There are some points where it is fairly informative but I made it halfway through this book (audiobook) and could not finish it. There’s better books out there - like The Myth of Normal by Gabor Maté.

I didn’t expect to like this book as much as I did! It is definitely a coming of age story telling of Persephone and her relationship with Hades. I did love the introduction of the other Gods and while I was assuming at certain points - I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t as predictable as I had guessed! And even so - this is a series? I am hooked!
The Humans by Matt Haig

I enjoyed this book so much that I put off finishing it the last four days. I only allowed myself a few pages a day because I just didn’t want this story to be over. Our unnamed narrator comes to Earth with a mission, a goal to eliminate The Humans who have solved the Riemann Hypothesis to cease further development in human technology. In doing so our unnamed alien falls in love with humanity - and all of our weird contradicting quirks that make us who we are. I fervently believe that we all need a reminder sometimes. Albeit peanut butter sandwiches, Debussy or The Beach Boys, a gentle hand holding ours, discovering a world of poetry - or enjoying these experiences second hand in our sweats laughing nervously or crying to ourselves for our unnamed fellow. Matt Haig never fails to capture the power of empathy in any of his works. I cannot recommend this read enough.

I love having Hades POV and some back story to explain his actions in ATOD - I don’t really have much more to add other than it was enjoyable

This book feels very personal to me. I didn’t anticipate relating to Persephones relationship with her mother as much as I have. I found it very hard to read in some parts. Despite wanting to devour this third installment of Persphones POV and loving all of this characters so much (Hermes especially) I didn’t want this book to end. I found myself bawling at the last two chapters and on the edge of my seat up until that point. It takes a strong individual to put themselves in a dangerous situation to save others and hopefully themselves, to understand that sometimes while we are loved - it is rare that that love is shown in a healthy manner. That possession holds no place over showing care, admiration and understanding. With that being said - despite that forgivenesses and fight - how it wears at us, sometimes it is not enough. And you have to put yourself first.
