I am not a big fan of self-help books but my therapist recommended this, so I thought it was worth a shot. I think the meditations would be good to follow on the 8-week schedule recommended, but I just read through the whole book. I liked the sections where it gave options for incorporating mindfulness into things that you have to do every day, like washing dishes. I think there are some practical practices here, but it still gave me the “self-help ick.”

I like mindfulness as concept and Mark G. Williams does a great job presenting the science as well as providing meditations to help someone start a practice. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a little more calm in their lives. Being able to observe your own thoughts is very helpful in the long run.

This has been recommended to me time and time again, and it has only been during this difficult time that I have listened. I am very grateful to this piece of work, for helping me so much.

I still have a long way to go, but I have found that at times I find an inner calm I have never had before, it’s a relief.

I took an eight-week mindfulness course this term that followed this text. I learned a lot about meditation and mindfulness... and realized just how much I don't know. It's going to be a lifelong journey - I'm glad I took this step.

Surely one of the kindest and most effective mental health books out there

Clear. Respectful. Actually nice writing. It's a no pressure programme that gives you so much space and time without any gobshite jargon like 'so your mind is a computer and also a book now imagine a stone that's you you're a stone now'

Plus the exercises on the CD that comes with it have been great for me

I feel GOOD! it actually WORKED!!

So it took me (uses fingers) 14 months to finish the eight-week plan.

Maybe this wasn't my thing.

Eh-just ok. Could use a little less repetition of the "science" and a few more examples of how to apply the technique.
