I really wanted to love this book. As a Christian, I really admire Lewis for the craftsmanship in which he created the world of Narnia. However, this book was lacking something for me. Perhaps it’s because I was hoping for more scripture-based appeals and fewer philosophical ramblings? I’m not sure. I think the book also lacked a strong structure and my academic brain wanted a more overarching narrative.
Cleverly written and eloquently expressed, McCurdy’s story is one we can all relate to in one way or another. McCurdy is incredibly brave to share about her upbringing in such a raw, unfiltered, and powerful way.

I am very excited to try Inchauspé’s tips for how to flatten my glucose levels. I appreciated how simple the steps she shared were. In addition, I liked the way she clearly and concisely presented the sometimes heavily scientific info.
I am looking for ways to curb my seasonal depression this year, and this book was the perfect, practical guide I needed to take on the winter months. Not only is it chock full of scientific info related to how depression impacts the brain (and learning about it makes it less daunting), but I appreciated the action steps the author offered to readers on how to turn depression into an “upward spiral.”
“Belonging to ourselves means being called to stand alone—to brave the wilderness of uncertainty, vulnerability, and criticism.”
3.5 stars. Brené Brown strikes again! Great insights with solid research to back the book up. It isn’t her strongest book by far, but still an encouraging read.

It’s been nearly 15 years since I’ve read this book, and I am happy to report that it still holds up! I forgot how lovable Riordan’s characters were! What a great series and I’m excited to see how it’s been adapted into a TV show.
Oh, how I adore this sweet little book! Anne might be my favorite literary character of all time.
