Rockstar x Song Writerโ๏ธ Strangers to loversโ๏ธ Found Familyโ๏ธ
I got this book on a โStuff Your Kindleโ day and while I enjoyed certain aspects of the story and think the plot idea was really fun, I found the story to be frustrating at times purely down to the amount of miscommunication that took place between the MC and LI alongside the fact that the MC was just so negative for the majority of the story.
Autumn is a songwriter who struggles to read and write, yet lyrics are the one thing that can come to her without an issue. I loved being able to read the song lyrics that came to Autumnโs mind and I think sheโs incredible, but I struggled to love Autumn herself. As the blurb mentions, sheโs mislabelled ADD and self defined as stupid, that is 100% true, but instead of considering her misdiagnosis, she proceeds to call herself stupid and throw herself a pity party constantly, it was really frustrating to read, especially when Iโve related to her in some ways. It is okay to be different and to have some sort of learning difficulty, but I donโt think that was portrayed enough within the story; not until the end when she was given a correct diagnosis (that was found online by the way) compared to going to a doctor to confirm it for sureโฆ
Logan was an absolute sweetheart and not that much older than Autumn, but I feel like there was a BIG difference in maturity levels and that while they feel as though theyโre meant to be, I feel that Autumn isnโt right for Logan. Theyโre most definitely at different stages in their lives and while Logan is progressing fast and doing well for himself, Autumn makes it more about her and seems to struggle to trust him despite the fact that heโs barely given her a reason to until she finally gets to see him, AND EVEN THEN SHE DOESNโT COMMUNICATE PROPERLY. I donโt know if it was the minor age gap or what, but the immaturity and how quick they fell for one another just didnโt do it for me.
Despite the negatives,I would like to talk about one thing that made the story enjoyable for me and that was the relationships between band mates and family members. Not everyone has the perfect family or friendship and yet the relationships portrayed within this story were so genuine and lovely that it warmed my heart. Rachel was an ultimate BFF to Autumn and Autumnโ family have a heart of gold! Then the band mates of Loganโs? The way they welcomed Autumn in was wonderful and so kind. It really stood out and made it easier to enjoy.
All in all, I did think about DNFing this story a few times, and while Iโm happy to of finished it, I donโt think it is for me.
Amnesiaโ๏ธ Lovers to Strangers to Loversโ๏ธ War & Magicโ๏ธ
For a duology that started off so perfect, the second book was incredibly underwhelming and disappointing for me. I wanted to love this book so much but I was struggling to even finish it. Letโs begin with the fact that Roman had his memories wiped for a certain period of time and that there was SO MUCH that couldโve been done with that. The yearning from Iris, the anguish and lust from them both once he started to remember her and their marriageโฆ WHERE WAS IT? WHY WAS IT LACKING? I feel as though it was barely there and that romance really did play a back pedal in this story. When the romantic moments did happen, my heart was so happy, but it was very little compared to what I read and felt in the first book.
Then we have the war itself. The first book had me wanting to scream and shake the author numerous times while hugging her when something good happened, yet the war felt like it was toned down? Donโt get me wrong, I loved the role that Roman played in the underworld and I think he did a brilliant job, but where were the extreme plot twists? The plot twists that were there were predictable and easy to guess, even the final moments that took place for Dacre were underwhelming. There was more action and war in the first story, which I was surprised about because I expected a lot more damage to happen to Oath than what did take place.
Despite the negatives, I want to talk about the relationships of Attie and Tobias, and Forest and Sarah. These relationships were beautiful and I love how they worked their way into the open. I loved Attie and I love that she got to find her other half who really is a perfect gentleman and fits her perfectly. Tobias played such an inspiring role in the story and I think he was so incredibly brave to do the things he did knowing his life could end at any moment. As for Forest and Sarah, I had so much anger toward Forest at the end of the first book, but I believe he redeemed himself and his reasoning was understandable. The love he had for Iris is unmatched and for him to find love with Sarah warmed my heart as I found him to be very closed off. Despite the sadness, I think they had a beautiful ending together, and while it was tragic, it was memorable and honourable.
All in all, I think I would try to give this book another chance in the future to see if my opinion changes, especially with how well written it is, but as of right now, I feel as if it shouldโve just been a standalone.
I enjoyed the fact that these short stories are based on real encounters but Iโm honestly left with more questions than I am understanding.
First of all, I think the way the stories connected together in one way or another, and that in the end there was a choice to be made by the one person you didnโt think would return. Second chances arenโt always given and when you decide to take them, that second chance is often thought about carefully. I like the idea of redoing something to see how itโll turn out with a risk of not meeting your loved ones again, you take the risk hoping you will and thatโs powerful.
I liked that there were numerous short stories and diversity as a whole, but the amount of short stories turned out to be a bit too much for me. I spent over half of the book wondering what had happened to those who had been abducted and wanting to read about them rather than continuing to read about new people - it felt as though there was an entire plot hole and it was leading me to be confused.
Iโm truly not sure if itโs because Iโm not always the smartest or if itโs just that I didnโt understand this story enough to fully understanding the ending, but I feel as though I never got my answer to what happened to certain characters, and now Iโm just left struggling to understand if they died, got a second chance at life or what?
I think the authors writing is great but as a whole, I donโt think this type of thing is for me and that I would much prefer to have less short stories and more time spent understanding the aliens and why theyโre doing what theyโre doing.
Finally, I would just like to wish the best of luck to the author as I think they are capable of writing great things and I would be very happy to read a thriller if they were to ever write one in the future:)
Arranged Marriageโ๏ธ Down syndrome representationโ๏ธ Marriage of Convenienceโ๏ธ
This was one of the first historical romances that Iโve actually enjoyed and didnโt want to put down, it was a book that I found on โStuff Your Kindleโ day and I was so intrigued by the blurb that I took a risk.
The risk clearly paid off but there were still some issues. Before I focus on the positives, letโs focus on the negatives!
1. The amount of miscommunication that took place. Some people enjoy the trope, and sometimes I do, but this book made me want to bang my head against a wall and scream at the characters to just talk about things. It felt as though they miscommunicated so much JUST to keep the story going every so often, because if there was less of it, you couldโve had the characters fall in love more gradually and become stronger than what they did in the end.
2. The first couple of times Robert kisses Julia, it felt as if he was forcing her to give him some sort of reaction. When she wasnโt moving her mouth against him, he continued to use his tongue and his hands although it was very well clear that she wasnโt enjoying it and was clearly uncomfortable. Though he never went further, I think he shouldโve been more respectful from the get go.
3. There was a big plot hole in my opinion when it came to Vanessa. We didnโt find out what happened in regard to her and the stunt that she pulled? It was a key component in the story in my opinion and yet she just disappeared.
Despite the negatives that I listed above, I do want to mention the numerous positives, and the one being the representation of Down syndrome. It was a delight to see it being represented so respectfully and honestly. It was clear that the author had done her research and done her best to remain respectful at all times. Mary played a key part within the story and one main reason I continued to read it was to know what would happen to her. I think she was such a lovely character and I am so damn happy with how she was treated by tenants and her family. She deserves the world.
Although Robert certainly came across as a fool often, he was also someone who had a good heart. The way he cared for Mary and Julia despite the deal was something that really warmed my heart. He went above and beyond to have a change when it came to the asylum and he made a difference in so many peopleโs lives. He didnโt care about scandal, he cared about the ones he loved, and that is a real man.
The Dowager Princess! She came across as a right snooty woman but she grew on me and I wish she showed a little more in the epilogue! The way she treated Mary and then Julia was beautiful, and she was a breath of fresh air in a space full of miscommunication and frustration. In all honesty, she was one of the best characters.
Finally, although the characters fell in love straight after sleeping together, I think it worked out for them and they ended up being a solid unit. I think the author wouldโve done better if there was less miscommunication but more time for them to fall in love, I think it couldโve made a big difference to the story. I will also be reading the next book because I want to see John happy!
After reading all of the books of the series, having an epilogue that focused on all of the characters was just what I needed, especially after feeling so attached to them all.
The books have been a rollercoaster and seeing everyone get a happy ending warmed my heart. I think Jordan Ford did an incredible job and Iโm going to miss Ryder Bay!
Bad boy x Bookwormโ๏ธ Opposites Attractโ๏ธ Hidden Secretโ๏ธ
I really enjoyed reading this story after meeting Lettie earlier on and then reading the story about what led Jace to Ryder Bay.
I have a very strong opinion regarding Jace and I understand that he acts the way he does because of how replaceable and misunderstood he feels, but it gets to a point where it is so incredibly frustrating that youโre fed up of the constant acting out, especially when people who finally treat him the way he wants to be treated, he still does the same thing! I feel like he has a lot of growing up to do and it was definitely shown at the end of the book after the plot twist took place.
Lettie has a little more sympathy from me, while she acts out, she also doesnโt host her own pity party as often. Losing her mother so young clearly hit her hard and having her sister act more like a mother than a sister mustโve been a horrible thing for her, especially when thereโs times when you need your sister more than you need a parent figure. Despite the attitude that she has, I think Lettie is an extremely relatable character for us who love reading and itโs always nice to have someone that you can relateable via a book. I love that she comes out of her comfort zone with Jace and I hope she puts that Johanna to shame.
In every story, there started to be a similar plot twist and that almost happened with this one but Iโm grateful that it strayed a little from what usually happens and changed. It was an interesting plot twist and it was for a character I never even suspected! I think the plot twist was a good way to have things settle nicely rather than have Jace continue on the path on destruction for himself.
Iโm looking forward to reading the final book and seeing how things end for everyone!
Iโm convinced the author is on crack or something while she writes because this the second time one of her books have made me go wide eyed and wanting to scream what the f*ck as loud as I possibly can.
I was beyond excited to start this book after I devoured the first one in one day while being on holiday last year. I was struggling to think of ways at to how Frieda could do one better when sheโd already done so well with the first book? I was coming up with any type of theory I could and thought she would do the opposite to the first book, but keep to the same kind of path; and for a while, I thought thatโs what she was doing.
DO NOT LET HER FOOL YOU, I WAS WRONG. (I normally at, but thatโs besides the point.)
Just when I thought there could be no more plot twists, BANG! There was another. I was so into this story and I wish the third one was already out so I could continue to think that the author is crazy, but Iโll just have to wait.
Can I also just say that mr Brock aka ๐ฅฆ deserved justice because he was an absolute sweetheart, but I have no doubt heโll make a woman VERY happy in the future.
If youโve made it to the end of this review, I want you to take three things from it and the story if youโre planning on reading it.
The above quote is something I very relatable as a reader and I just thought it was beautiful to read. As readers, we read to escape the world around us and dive into another one, but do you ever get that feeling that youโll never read enough to have that feeling continuously?
ANYWAY! This was a very interesting novella within the Ryder Bay series and Jace is a very different character to all of the men weโve come across.
Jace is an adrenaline junkie who clearly doesnโt think things through and in the end, it only gets his best friend hurt. While reading everything from Jaceโs POV, I could understand why he was acting the way he was, but I think he was also capable of telling his mum how he felt and that things couldโve solved much easier and this whole situation couldโve been avoided. He definitely needs to grow up and I think his stay in Ryder Bay will help him mature.
I loved getting to see some emails from Lette because I was intrigued to see what was going on with her after reading her sisterโs story. I feel as though Lette is going to be relatable in numerous ways, and I just hope she doesnโt get her heartbroken when she learns who Jace actually is. She has such a kind heart and that was shown through the emails.
Iโm very very very excited to see how things play out!
Love Triangleโ๏ธ Found Familyโ๏ธ Opposites Attractโ๏ธ
*~*~*~*~*
This is such a special book to me because I first came across it on an interactive story app called Episode a few years ago. I would spend my time reading this story and desperate for certain things to happen and I loved that I got to make choices for the character Emily, but reading it as a novel has been a whole different experience for me!
Emily is a complete fish out of water, sheโs gone to a place sheโs always dreamed off and yet nothings gone perfect for her. Her host mother is terrible, making friends has been near impossible, and on top of that? Sheโs miserable.
When Emily meets Paul and Jon, things change and I love how a quiet girl blooms into a person with confidence and a friendship group. The found family trope within this story is so cute and always warms my heart. I love that Emily is welcomed into a group of numerous people and that they all come up with nicknames for her and the majority of them treat her well. Some of the friendships that form are beautiful (especially the one with Danielle, I absolutely adore it).
Iโm a sucker for a good love triangle despite the fact that I always get angry if the person doesnโt end up with who I want them to. I, myself, am team Jon, I feel as though they have more chemistry and Paul doesnโt deserve Emily after some of the shit heโs pulled! Despite the anger I feel for Paul, I do think heโs also good for Emily, but as of right now, I feel like Jon is better suited for her. (I also hate the nickname โbabycakesโ where as โLittle Germanโ is just so cute)!
Some see this story as a new adult story but I see it as a young adult and while the characters are of legal age, the intimate scenes within the book make me a little uncomfortable. If the characters were no longer in high school, I think I would feel differently, but because they are, I just feel like the little bit of spiciness isnโt appropriate.
All in all, Iโm excited to read the second book because things are going to get even more dramatic, and I canโt wait for Emily to really sink her teeth into America!
Found Familyโ๏ธ Ex-Juvie x Good Girlโ๏ธ Opposites Attractโ๏ธ
Savannah and Griffin have nothing to do with one another but one look makes them feel as though theyโre missing out. I like to believe in love at first sight, and I truly believe that when Savannah and Griffin looked at one another for the first time, thatโs what occurred.
One is on the run, one is struggling to keep it together and yet amongst all the chaos, they both find comfort in one another and soon a whirlwind romance unwinds.
I enjoyed the first book of the series but I preferred this book more. Thereโs something about a redemption arc for a character that always leaves me feeling warm and content inside. Griffin messed up in his past, yes he was just a child but he still messed up in a way that has continued to affect him as heโs grown. Despite this, I think he deserved so much kindness and happiness to be given to him, especially when his heart is pure and full of goodness.
I really loved Savannah, I love how kind she is and I love that she does her best to look after everyone, in a way, I feel as though I can relate to Savannah, and when her world starts to fall apart, I just want to hug her because sheโs still so wonderful to anyone and everyoneโฆ even when they donโt deserve it.
The progression between friendship to lovers between Griffin and Savannah was a tad fast for me, but I also think it fits in well with the love at first sight element. While theyโre opposite in numerous ways, theyโre alike in personality and blend together nicely. Their chemistry was so much better than Aidan and Savannahโs and you could tell that theyโre the kind of couple who will still be married in thirty odd years.
One thing I really loved about this story was the plot twist. I was expecting a certain something to happen and yet Jordan Ford did a whole 180 on me. While I think the plot twist finished a little underwhelmed (I think Savannah needed more time to adjust and accept things), I do feel like it was a good way to get rid of an arsehole and show another persons true colours.
All in all, I really enjoyed this story and Iโm happy onto the third.
