I don’t exactly think this is everything one needs to know for intermittent fasting. On the other hand it is pretty comprehensive. Utilizing the tools in this book has helped me immensely. I no longer take diabetes injections. I have energy and my mood has stabilized.
Dr. Fung has an immense amount of experience with fasting people. Other reviews that talk about outdated studies don’t mention that Dr. Fung himself has tried to get studies done on fasting and the currently research establishment has fought it tooth and nail. Fasting doesn’t make anyone money so why put money into researching it? That’s western research science. Read the book. Watch some of his videos. Try it. If it doesn’t work for you you don’t have to do it.

I got this because I've been researching intermittent fasting online. This book is by a Canadian doctor specializing in kidneys (effectively diabetes) and explains in clear terms how various hormones work to store or release energy. Basically, the old 80's model was missing big, big pieces of the equation. If like me you have a family history of type 2 diabetes (like every family member over 60), then this book provides actionable education. I am sharing this with all my family members.

Found it interesting- a way to lose weight if everything has failed. Incredible results achieved by people morbidly obese - seemingly miracle results reversing type II diabetes.

Helped me get out of a weight-loss plateau and find a new way of tackling a healthier lifestyle that was easier to maintain that straight up dieting. Some of the content does not pertain to me - I'm not diabetic nor pre-diabetic, for example - but that's okay - it was highly educational, and a good read.

Wonderful resource on the subject of fasting. I've been doing intermittent fasting for a week with good results. It wasn't as hard as I thought. I feel less hungry too. If I had known that fasting would not harm my body, I would have had done it years ago. Now I'm recommending fasting to anyone who is interested in losing weight. This book is a great read if they need more info.

I must admin I skimmed this book but did not read it all the way through.
This book is designed to be skimmable and is nicely laid out into logical sections.
The first part is laid out with wealth of information on why fasting is beneficial and science behind it. The second part includes details on how to fast safely.
The third part discussed various fasting regiments.
The last part includes recipes.
I found a number of tips and suggestions in this book helpful. The author is the doctor so he also gives a lot of warnings and recommendations for those who take medications or may not be in their best health.

I thought this book had a plethora of information that so many people can benefit from, whether you are a person with actual health concerns like diabetes, are trying to lose weight, or you are trying to advise patients about options to improve their health, particularly natural options like fasting. I’m giving it 4 stars mostly because the book is very repetitive when talking about the history of fasting, the mechanisms on how insulin plays a role in the body and how beneficial it is to certain diseases like diabetes.

3.5 stars to be precise. It did help me get some clarity on fasting, but I was filled with too many numbers and charts for my liking. It probably is because I had a different expectation from the book and wasn't looking at Fasting from a scholastic purpose.
